Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Transport Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following functions: the incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following functions:
Check vehicles and equipment received at the workshop to determine the nature of repairs required and includes in the UMOJA Service order detailed descriptions of the repairs that will have to be carried out
Book vehicles for their regular maintenance and advise users on the best time for taking their vehicle to the workshop to avoid peak times and waiting periods
Conducts detailed analyses of the vehicle problem areas using various types of hand tools, gauges, testing and fault-tracing equipment (Diagnostic tools).
Deploy the required skills to trouble shoot faults on major vehicles components such as braking systems, transmission system, Fuel system, final drive, electric systems, etc.
Diagnose, Strip, examine and reassemble the engines, gearboxes, servo units, clutch systems, etc to its original status after repair.
Run an effective installation of electronic injectors, calibration, diagnostic tests, erase error codes, trouble shoot hydraulic systems/neutronic mechanism, and provide a solution as necessary.
Implement a master plan for scheduled and corrective maintenance in line with manufactures recommendations.
Employ required skills to trouble shoot complicated faults on fork-lifts, low-loaders, graders, wheel dozers, bull dozers, scrapers, back-hoe loaders, including repairing steering clutches, spool valves, fluid flywheels, torque convertors etc.
Creates Service order in “UMOJA” system, monitor and account for actual time spent on each job through servicer order completion.
Locate spare parts properly, for future tracking purpose.
Receive requests from other sectors and team sites, verify them and respond after consulting the supervisor.
Receive requests from the workshop, check them and immediately inform the supervisor for local purchases.
Ensure movement of spare parts between the workshop and the IWH is properly done.
Verify correct PID, part numbers and spare part descriptions on online catalogue.
Perform physical stock inventory.
Verify in UMOJA that issued spare parts have been entered in Service orders before confirming completion,
Ensures that Service orders are processed by the TPT IWH and all spare parts and POL consumed is entered in the service order before confirming completion.
Carryout test and quality control of all vehicles before handing back the vehicle to the user upon completion of the maintenance or repair
Prepare a “Damage & Discrepancy Report” (DDR) in the UMOJA and submit to the Transport Officer for final signature.
Performs other duties such as acting as Duty Transport Standby Mechanic.
Any other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Master degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:

Light and/or Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or Transport Management or Logistics or similar, Certificate of recognized professional training and extensive experience in a transportation management occupation.

Required experience: 48 Months Experience remark:

Minimum 4 years previous experience in Transport or material management and/or Light Heavy Vehicles Mechanic or Logistics and a minimum of 4 years driving testing officer.
Others Skills: Good interpersonal and communications skills. Have affinity with or interest in humanitarian relief, post-conflict situations, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
