Description of task
Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Project Manager or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the Civil Engineer will:
- Provide technical support to the UNDP Office in Lusaka to support procurement during construction tender evaluations;
- Oversee and supervise various infrastructure activities of contractors in the resettlement scheme, including construction and/or rehabilitation of buildings, roads and bridges, sanitation facilities, communal spaces, and other sites and ensure quality control;
- Ensure environmental preservation measures are taken seriously in the implementation of infrastructure activities;
- Prepare regular site inspection reports and minutes;
- Perform any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering disciplines with courses in physical planning, roads design, construction management, infrastructure development or any other related subjects.
- At least 3 years of progressively responsible functions in road construction, site planning or a related field.
- English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
- Registered with the Engineering institution of Zambia;
- Good understanding and proven experience in site planning strategies and design and ability to achieve quality results, on time and within available resources;
- Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in AutoCAD, various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
- Ability towards analytical and creative thinking for rapid solutions;
- Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
- Sound security awareness;
- Have affinity with or interest in human security issues and inclusive development; volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development; and the UN System.
