Job Description

CONTEXTUAL BACKGROUND: Working in coordination with the humanitarian community, the IRC currently addresses the needs of war-affected Iraqi internally displaced persons (IDPs), Iraqi returnees and Syrian refugees from several operational bases in the country and cross-border into northeast Syria with activities focused on education, protection and rule of law, women’s protection and empowerment, child protection, economic relief and development and health. IRC’s programs assist Iraqi and Syrian IDPs, Iraqi and Syrian refugees and vulnerable populations in host communities across multiple sectors: education, cash assistance and livelihoods, protection, women’s protection and empowerment and child protection. Over 50% of the displaced population are children, including children separated from their parents or caregivers, and are at escalating risk of abuse, neglect, violence, and exploitation, including child labor and child marriage. Lifesaving, quality, and age-appropriate support and services for children is critical for their protection and recovery. The IRC’s Child Protection programme has been supporting displaced children and their families with a case management and community based child protection response since 2013. Job Overview/Summary: The Child Protection Manager will be responsible for overseeing the start of up child protection programming throughout Anbar including working with child protection capacity building with local government partners and direct implementation of case management and community based child protection activities. The Child Protection Manager must become familiar with the context, critical needs and build relationships on the ground. They will work to strengthen the child protection response by capacity building a new team and working with other IRC teams so that integrated services can be leveraged to respond to complex needs. Position directly supervises:Senior Child Protection Officer, Senior Case Management Officer.
