The UNDP and the European Commission (EC) are working together to support innovation and entrepreneurship in Lebanon to support a clean energy transition. The overall aim is job creation and growth in support of Lebanon's economy while supporting Climate Change Mitigation in Lebanon. 
 
Within this context and with funding from the European Union (EU), UNDP has initiated the the CEDRO 5 project, in with the Association of Lebanese Industrialists (ALI), the Lebanon Green Building Council (LGBC), and the Internatioanal Renewable Energy Credits (I-REC) Institution. 
 
The CEDRO 5 project aims to achieve the objectives including enhancing innovation, entrepreneurship and research, assisting in technology transfer and the creation of new value chains in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sector, supporting and initiating enabling policies for the renewable energy (RE) sector, training and capacity building, and effective awareness initiatives on sustainable energy issues.
 
The UNDP is seeking to recruit an Energy Innovation Analyst for the project with the main responsibility of providing the engineering support and operational coordination related primarily to the implementation of renewable energy and energy efficiency systems in industries and facilities across Lebanon and in related activities including the preparation of technical reports, capacity building, reporting and coordination.  

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager (PM), the Energy Innovation Analyst will assist the PM in the development and coordination of activities related to innovation, entrepreneurship and research tasks.  The specific functions/responsibilities include:
 
1.Technical Responsibilities 
  • Assist the PM in coordinating with existing institutions and/or incubators to enhance energy innovation, entrepreneurships, scale-up activities, and women empowerment  
  • Research the appropriateness of existing innovative business models – internationally - for implementation into the Lebanese EE and RE sectors;
  • Assist in drafting the call for proposals for incubators to coordinate and team up with for the delivery of the training programs and the ‘Energy Hub’;
  • Assist in reaching out to institutions (academic, financial, development, etc…), Energy-Innovation-SMEs and entities to build-up (or support existing) an ‘Energy Hub’ network and partners;
  • Assist in the selection of beneficiaries through the review of the beneficiary application process, evaluation of the applications, and on-site validation of data and information. 
  • Assist in the preparation of technical specifications for international and local consultants and consultancies related to innovation and job creation 
  • Research and maintain an updated database on energy data generated and analyse the information in order to propose innovative approaches, report back on impact and assess potential upscaling and economic development
  • Draft reports on the above-mentioned topics and assist in policy recommendations and papers based on lessons learnt and research
 
2.Monitoring and reporting
  • Assist PM in liaising with project partners, counterparts, beneficiaries and potential beneficiaries for the proper implementation of the tasks related to innovation, gender and data collection (M&E); 
  • Assist in the monitoring and data collection from the various sites including data management and analysis;
  • Assist in the review of studies and assessments in relation to the project deliverables
  • Support in the training and capacity building workshops that are organized by the project to transfer technology to beneficiaries and counterparts.
 

Competencies

  • Ability to interface and maintain a positive relationship with others (team work);
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Good research skills; 
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and accurately; 
  • Knowledge of the entrepreneurship landscape and business development particularly in energy applications
 

Required Skills and Experience

Education:
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in energy, environment or energy economics or closely related field
  • Certificates from reputable entities / universities in innovation and entrepreneurship is a plus.
Experience:
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant work experience with a bachelor’s degree or 2 years of experience with a master’s degree
  • Knowledge of sustainable energy and renewable energy systems is required 
  • Experience in innovation and entrepreneurship, business development or product design is a plus. 
  • Proficiency in standard Microsoft Office applications and relevant computer application is required. 
Language Requirements:
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic. 
  • French is a plus.
