Job Description

IRC Background:

Founded in 1933, the IRC is a leading nonsectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. In the U.S.; IRC provides assistance to refugees resettling here through 27 offices operating in 16 states. IRC resettles approximately 11,000 refugees per year and provides numerous program services to assist the refugee from their arrival through citizenship. The IRC in Salt Lake City opened it office in 1994, and provides resettlement services through extended case management to newly arrived refugees for up to 24-months as well as over twenty different programs to educate and empower refugees. 

Job Overview:

Operation AmeriCorps is a national program where community members have the opportunity to serve in local nonprofits for one year helping eliminate poverty. In return for service, members receive a living allowance and an education award upon completion of service.

The AmeriCorps position will focus efforts towards building and providing families and women opportunities to give input on targeted outreach to the most vulnerable and at-risk members of the refugee and new American community. Using this information the member will coordinate targeted outreach regarding vital services to support and stabilize households. The position will also play a key role in the IRC Academy model of facilitating community integration and education acquisition by women and families across the entire spectrum of topics. Another key component of this position is to provide support for victims of domestic violence to swiftly seek alternative safe housing and support services by connecting clients to resources that lead to the self-sufficiency path.

As an AmeriCorps member the pay, called a “living stipend” is projected to be $17,250 which will be distributed over the period of 12 months, twice per month, until you are no longer in the program.

This is a Full -time contract and commitment for the course of one year (12 months), with a minimum of 1700 hours of service. Upon Successful completion of the contract, minimum hours and satisfactory fulfillment of your one (1) year contract, you would be eligible for an Education award of $6,095. You may use to either further your education or pay on a previously accrued qualifying Federal student loan(s).

Also while serving as an Operation AmeriCorps member, if you have any qualifying Federal Student loans, they will may qualify for forbearance along with any taxes accrued, will be paid by the National Corporation (Trust) at the end of your 12 month contract. The full time position also has Health Care options available through RBI Insurance (subject to eligibility and costs to the member).

Major Responsibilities:

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

·Elicit input from refugee women and families in the community on needs and methods of outreach needed to reach vulnerable households through a variety of methods.

·Coordinate specialized outreach to these groups based on those results regarding resources and services available for housing support, economic empowerment, education, health, digital inclusion, and other areas.

·Work to standardize and streamline educational opportunities for vulnerable new arrivals and other at-risk women and families to optimize educational uptake and retention on housing, economic and resettlement topics.

·Coordinate with all programs in the office on educational opportunities and outreach efforts to ensure optimal strategies for reaching and impacting populations.

·Work with vulnerable community members to provide access to mainstream community events and activities to promote integration and access to resources vital for stability and thriving.


Qualifications

Job Requirements:

·Must be able to clear an FBI Criminal Background Check.

·High School Diploma or GED required.

·Ability to communicate effectively with people of different linguistic backgrounds.

·Highly organized with excellent time and space management skills.

·Proficient in MS Excel and Word.

·Patience, flexibility and a good sense of humor.

·Ability to speak passionately and articulately about our mission.

·Professional, friendly and courteous attitude a must.

·Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

·Ability to drive a vehicle, valid and current driver’s license. Must have proof of insurance and good driving record.

AmeriCorps Benefits:
