Job Description

The Senior Financial Capability Coordinator will support clients’ financial capability needs by coordinating financial capability services for the office, including group trainings, workshops and individual financial counseling and coaching sessions for refugees and immigrants, including becoming a certified financial coach.This position is responsible for implementing and strengthening an effective financial literacy curriculum that supports the acquisition of knowledge, skills and tools necessary to engage constructively with the American financial system.The Senior Financial Capability Coordinator will take a lead in working collaboratively with IRC staff, programs and other community partners to model and disseminate an empowerment-based coaching approach to addressing financial capability needs of clients and the community.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates, adapts and maintains financial education programs and services.
  • Coordinates and provides one-on-one consultations and coaching to help participants with personal financial matters.
  • Works with clients to review personal credit history and helps support credit improvement activities.
  • Acts as local support for applying for and following up on credit-building and consumer loans given to clients through the Center for Economic Opportunity (CEO).
  • Recruits, works with and supports financial capability partners and volunteers, including financial institutions, other donors and the wider community.
  • Coordinates and conducts outreach for community-based financial education and financial capability events.
  • Oversees annual VITA tax preparation services targeted to refugees and new Americans.
  • Complies with all policies, procedures and protocols of the agency.
  • Participates in all program meetings and staff development activities.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Business, Education, Public Administration, Social Services or related field.
  • At least two years of professional experience working in finance and basic financial literacy field required.
  • Experience with client counseling, case management or coaching required.
  • Proficiency in any refugee language strongly preferred (e.g. Arabic, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Kirundi, etc.)
  • Staff supervision experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with immigrant or refugee population strongly preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to make presentations required.
  • Demonstrated skills with reporting and tracking information in a database.
