Job Description

The IRC’s International Development Unit, a part of the Global Partnerships and Philanthropy (GPP) Department, leads on the Organization’s engagement with high-value private-sector stakeholders (corporations, foundations and individual philanthropists) globally. 

The Senior Officer will report to the Associate Director and support their and other Corporate Partnerships colleagues in their efforts to identify, solicit, maintain and expand corporate partnerships with public-facing fundraising and brand awareness activities and initiatives. The Senior Officer will support the team’s efforts to manage and grow a portfolio of multi-faceted corporate partnerships and prospects including cause-related marketing, customer fundraising, and other initiatives to help elevate the IRC’s brand and reach financial and non-financial targets. They will also lead on select partnerships.

This highly collaborative position will require knowledge of programs and organizational initiatives as well as extensive coordination within International Development and other departments to support corporate partner stewardship. This will include but is not limited to maintaining and creating new resources, supporting the development and execution of partnership profiles and strategies, producing written content, pitches, proposals, and donor reports, preparing for and following up on meetings, brainstorming ideas to generate new revenue, and other administrative duties. The Senior Officer will also monitor donation payments, agreement deadlines, interim and end-of-grant reports, on-going communication, and maintain systems and databases.

The Senior Officer is a proactive, self-motivated, results-oriented, and creative professional with excellent prospecting and client relationship building, opportunity identification and development, project management, with strong attention to detail.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Associate Director to establish target prospects and strategies for corporate partners with a focus on achieving GPP Private Sector Engagement Strategy goals;
  • Design and implement creative and comprehensive outreach, solicitation and management strategies for partners and prospects within the portfolio, leading on partnership negotiations, proposal submissions, pitches, and partnership management and stewardship;

  • Support the Director, Senior Director, and Vice President of International Development, and other IRC staff (including the President), in high-level private sector partnership solicitations and relationship management with briefing materials, agendas, background research and appropriate follow-up;

  • Manage and track the internal drafting and approval processes necessary for proposals, reports, external-facing copy, and contract agreements;

  • Contribute to monitoring and analyzing corporate partnership trends to leverage general market trends, ensuring that the IRC’s partnership proposition remains compelling and competitive;
  • With the Associate Director, establish and monitor a robust engagement plan for partners and prospects, including identifying key performance indicators, communications, ongoing planning, and reporting procedures, in order to optimize quality of service, income growth, and donor satisfaction;
  • Should a position become available, supervise and manage the workflow for a co-assigned junior staff member who supports portfolio management and development;

  • Liaise and form strong relationships with internal colleagues across departments to ensure information flows between prospects/donors are clear and aligned, while developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with GPP colleagues and IRC program and support staff globally;

  • Manage a portfolio of partnerships with an aim of retaining and upgrading corporate partners and prospects through cultivation communication, emergency solicitations, and targeted communication to yield unrestricted funding;
  • Undertake special assignments, as directed.

Qualifications

Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree;
  • 6 years account/project management experience gained in either a development/ fundraising office, or corresponding Private Sector experience; including substantial writing and editing responsibilities;

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Exceptional written communication skills and verbal presentation skills, as well as the ability to be clear, concise, and compelling in all communications;
  • Ability to work on own initiative both independently and in a dynamic, cross-functional global team structure;
  • Experience meeting ambitious revenue goals and performance indicators, as well as participating in financial projections, reporting, and scenario planning;
  • Sophisticated understanding of the role of written communications in building and maintaining complex individual and institutional relationships;
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to devise creative solutions to complex problems and issues;
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and proactively anticipate and flag issues;
  • Comfort participating in external and internal meetings with poise and professionalism;
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain positive, collaborative, productive relationships with staff and partners at all levels;
  • Highly developed project management skills with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to accurately deliver on tight deadlines and prioritize between conflicting demands;

Preferred experience & skills:

  • Experience working at or with a non-profit preferred but not required;
  • Ability to proactively identify and create processes necessary to support effective partnerships;
  • Experience and understanding of cause-related marketing and customer fundraising preferred but not required;
  • Highly computer literate, to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint as well as familiarity with CRM databases including Salesforce is a plus;
  • Commitment to fundraising for international development, human rights, social justice and U.S. immigrant communities.

Working Environment: Standard office work environment; some potential travel in the U.S. and international. This role may require working remotely full or part time and part time remote employees may be required to share workspace. When working remotely, applicants must have a home or alternate workspace they can effectively complete their work from during regularly scheduled work hours.
