SCA Background

The Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA) has been working in Afghanistan since 1982, presently managing development Programmes concerning Health, Education, Rural Livelihoods and Community Governance, with a total annual budget of roughly USD 40 million. The total number of staff is around 5,500. During the last 10 years SCA has undertaken a change process moving from a primarily humanitarian service delivery approach towards more of a developmental role, putting increasing emphasis on capacity development, rights-based programming and outcome orientation. The mission of SCA is to empower individuals, communities and local organizations, primarily in rural areas and with particular focus on women, girls, boys and vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities, so that they may participate fully in society and influence their own development. Scope of work:

The School Health Officer is responsible to lead school health project activities at the provincial level. Through that role, school health Officer will ensure the successful implementation of the project to achieve its objectives. He/she will ensure the implementation of school health components and quality of the services as well as the appropriate use of its resources in conformity to the school health concept, MoPH policy in the province, the implementing, monitoring, evaluation and reporting. He/she has a personnel responsibility of leading school health committee, perform medical check-up of the students. The Officer also ensures that activities are completed according to the schedule and within budget. Working with the teachers and support of the students are one of the main responsibilities of the position. He/she works in close co-operation with MCH Senior Officer and Education project manager and Health Technical unit at Kabul Management Office. He collaborates closely with school consultants and regular contacts/briefing with related provincial authorities.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Graduated from Medical faculty or from Nursing/Midwifery school 
At least three-year experience within relevant field preferably with management experience
Experience in clinical work and training facilitation
Fluent spoken and written Dari and Pashto, (English desirable)
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and capacity to deal with different rural communities
Enough qualification of supervision
Highly motivated to work with different level of professional in any selected areas with different background of working
Qualification on essential medical skills
Ready to work, live and travel in an intricate and strenuous environment

Main Responsibilities:

Providing an appropriate environment for Supervision of all schools which will include in the schedule.
Regular supervision of all health educator “teacher and students”, from the first of the programme up to end
Ensure that all the material and equipment are available on the working area
Taking and controlling the educator’s “teachers” time sheets
Providing a good environment for of the instructions and hygiene objectives to the students
Supervision from the hygiene of the students to find the weakness of them and assign that in which areas the students need more focus and support, putting the results of the evaluation on the report is so required
Support teachers and students to find the answers for their questions and using the theoretical sessions on the practical area
Providing a good support for Health Education
Carry out medical check-up of the students
Following up the health educators “teachers and students”
Documentation and registration of medical check-ups, follow ups, meetings and evaluations
Carry out any other duties as directed by immediate supervisor
Responsible for drafting Quarterly Reports
To ensure quality of the school health activities through regular technical follow ups and assessments
To maintain regular communication and discussions with MCH and Education project manager and update on the progress and the project events and to share ideas and concerns to reach the appropriate decisions and solutions
To represent the school health activities towards the provincial administrative, education and health authorities as well as the various coordination bodies
To establish suitable meeting structures that enhance the consistency of the school health concept and methodologies in the school and enhance flow of information and sharing of experiences at the various levels of the programme
Actively advocate for child health improvement
