Eligibility criteria

Candidate age: between 18 and 29 throughout the entire duration of their assignment. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Communications Specialist, the UNV Communications Assistant will provide support in:

  1. Communications, Knowledge Management and advocacy
  • Assist in the implementation of the communication and knowledge management plan 2020 as well as support in designing of the proposed communication strategy for the Ethiopia Country Office (ECO);
  • Support the County Office’s social media engagement in line with guidance from Communication Specialist
  • Draft press releases, events briefs, talking points, stories, and similar communication and advocacy related messages;
  • Assist in coordinating the production of communications, visibility and knowledge products;
  • Ensure effective channels for dissemination of communications products to relevant target audiences through organizing and updating mailing lists;
  • Take photos, filters, labels and archives as well as reorganizes the existing to ensure enhanced accessibility;
  • Assist in managing and coordinating the UN Women Ethiopia office special events and ensure communications support is provided to key programmatic events under each programme unit;
  • Assist in maintaining and expanding contacts with local, regional and international media;
  • Support the establishment of a coordinated knowledge management system for print and electronic knowledge products.
  1. Administrative and financial management
  • Assist the communications team in procurement of goods and services for effective implementation of communications plan and proposed strategy;
  • Arrange external and internal meetings and work-related missions;
  • Participate in relevant meetings;
  • Support monitoring of budget expenditures and maintain up to date record of spending;
  • Support drafting of periodical reports according to the Annual Work Plan and allocated resource.
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, Political Science, Law or related social science fields

Required experience: Experience remark:
  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience (up to 2 years) in in managing social media pages, communications, media, or public relations;
Language skills:
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Amharic(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
Area of expertise: Journalism, mass media and broadcasting, Other communications related experience Area of expertise details:
  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience in the use of social media for interactive development communication/advocacy;
  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience in producing multimedia contents including video;
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications (word, excel, publisher, and related such as social media, InDesign etc.);
  • Knowledge of the SDGs’ context and gender issues is an asset;
  • Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills;
  • Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team;
  • Flexible and open to learning and new experiences;
  • Respect for diversity and adaptability to other cultures, environments and living conditions;
  • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded;
  • Computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media, and others).
