Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Chief Transport Section or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Transport Assistant will:

Raise notification and service order for the workshop and warehouse to release spare parts required to workshop mechanics and motor transport officers or perform maintenance services;

Managing the reception, production control and output of the workshop of all vehicles within the mission;

Monitoring the overall performance of workshop, ensuring the appropriate maintenance of individual types based on the age and technical performance of each make/model;

Ensuring quality control of repairs and maintenance and safety condition of the vehicles.

Identifying and monitoring the requirement for workshop tools/special equipment necessary for the efficient production;

Coordinate with the warehouse on the regular inventory and the availability of spare parts in stocks;

Oversee the workshop records in Umoja, prepares financial and budget summaries, writes reports and submits them to Fleet maintenance unit for review;

Determines generic technical specifications, estimates quantity (number of units), drafts proposals for requisitions for spare parts, tools and equipment in accordance with the UN procurement procedures;

Monitors the constant availability of vehicles for temporary assignment in support of one-off and emergency;

Conducts distribution of non-expendable transport assets;

Conducts bi-annual physical inventory of non-expendable transport assets in accordance with the established procedures and deadlines;

Maintains records for non-expendable transport assets, including records in fleet management databases;

Participates in the development of the Transport Section’s annual budget proposals;

Processes the vehicle write-off cases in accordance with the established procedures and deadlines

Conduct periodic, physical inspections on vehicles, to ensure they are maintained correctly, daily cleanliness (indoor and outdoor of the vehicle) and to detect damage and loses as well as for day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle: check oil, water, battery, tires, etc.;

Perform a variety of additional, ad-hoc tasks as and when required by the Chief Transport Officer and/ or his designated as required in accordance with UN policies and procedures.

Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Technical/Vocational diploma Required experience: 36 Months Experience remark:

At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in repair, maintenance, and operation of MHE/CM and vehicles, or other mechanical equipment maintenance and repairs. This period can include formal nationally recognized and accredited apprenticeship programme; Three years of experience in vehicle maintenance and repair is required. Experience working in the UN system is an asset; Full unaided physical mobility;

Language skills:
