Job Description

The IRC has worked in Liberia since 1996 and is one of the largest humanitarian actors in the country. Guided by its 2015 – 2020 Strategic Action Plan, the IRC implements innovative health, women’s and child protection and empowerment projects in Nimba, Lofa, Bong, and Montserrado counties.The IRC has also implemented projects in Maryland, River Gee, Grand Bassa, Margibi and Grand Gedeh counties .The IRC is currently leading the USAID Partnership for Advancing Community Based Services (PACS) Activity in Bong, Lofa, and Nimba counties of Liberia.

JOB OBJECTIVES:

The ideal candidate will have a “can do” attitude and desire long-term employment in a progressive business culture. We’re seeking hardworking, reliable and competent Drivers to join our already vibrant team at the IRC. The Drivers will be responsible for the safe and efficient handling of the organization daily transportation needs. They will ensure that the IRC Vehicles are well maintained and equipped with necessary tools. The candidates will ensure that IRC Liberia policy and procedures are adhere to. Excellent communication skill is essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure that IRC driving policy is followed and respected at all times
  • Serves as both a local and long distance driver of IRC vehicles
  • Drive safely, showing proper respect to Liberian motor-vehicle laws, pedestrians, other drivers, Liberia police, check point guards and other officers
  • Use the safety seat belt and follow all traffic laws at all time while driving
  • Liaise with Mechanic and Supply Chain (Fleet) department to mechanically maintained Assigned Vehicle
  • Maintain the vehicle in good working condition. Carry out routine maintenance checks and inform the Fleet department whenever repairs and maintenance work are required (per IRC vehicle policy).
  • Maintaining IRC records and logs of mileage and fuel used by vehicles
  • Maintaining the vehicle clean and mechanically sound.
  • Ensure that vehicles are fuelled before going home at the end of the day
  • Ensure that the vehicle is cleaned at all times.
  • At no time is a driver allowed to transport non-IRC personnel unless approved by the Country Director, and Deputy Director.
  • Immediately report to the Fleet Officer, Supply Chain Coordinator and Deputy Director of Operations an accident by written report. Police report is required within 48 hours and the report will then be submitted to the Country Director.
  • Ensure that all IRC security rules and procedures are respected at all times
  • Work effectively with Program Staff and ably represent the Program during distribution of supplies etc. when required Finance/ Budgeting:
  • Ensure vehicle assigned are well maintained according to manufacture instruction, IRC policy and procedures and Instruction from your supervisor in order to keep vehicle’s running cost at an acceptable amount.

SECURITY/COMMUNICATION:

  • Ensure communication system in the vehicle maintained and repaired to acceptable condition.
  • Ensure clear understanding; logistics policy and security policy vision.
  • To ensure vehicle has updated contact phone number, call-sign.

COMMON DUTIES:

  • Attend and participate in trainings identified/organized by your supervisor.
  • Follow any new procedures and guidelines designated in circulars from Field Coordinator and/or Country Director.
  • Report any violations of the IRC Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Code of Conduct (LR and World-wide) as per the IRC Worldwide reporting mechanism. The reporting of violations is an obligation on the part of all staff members.
  • Assist where necessary in undertaking activities that aim to prevent the occurrence of sexual abuse and exploitation of beneficiaries by IRC and other humanitarian workers.
  • Carries out other duties as assigned by you supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Minimum High School Graduate
  • Valid and current Driving License
  • Four Years of Driving Experience with an INGO preferred
  • Knowledge of general vehicle maintenance
  • Who can hear, speak, see clearly and write English
  • Strong Communication skills
