SCA Background

The Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA) has been working in Afghanistan since 1982, presently managing development Programmes concerning Health, Education, Rural Livelihoods and Community Governance, with a total annual budget of roughly USD 40 million. The total number of staff is around 5,500. During the last 10 years SCA has undertaken a change process moving from a primarily humanitarian service delivery approach towards more of a developmental role, putting increasing emphasis on capacity development, rights-based programming and outcome orientation. The mission of SCA is to empower individuals, communities and local organizations, primarily in rural areas and with particular focus on women, girls, boys and vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities, so that they may participate fully in society and influence their own development. Scope of work:

Learning for Healthy Life (LHL) is a component of SCA’s RH project. This initiative is inspired by the need to improve the community understanding about the health-related issues and promote the literacy level of females. The LHL Supervisor is responsible for planning, organizing, facilitating, implementing, supervising and monitoring of the LHL classes at the community level. She will work in close cooperation and coordination with other relevant unites for successful implementation of the project.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in related professional field (Midwives are preferred)
2-3 years’ relevant experience, especially within an NGO, or similar organization. at least two-year experience in community mobilization and the same project.
Computer skill at operator level, especially with MS Office packages.
Fluency in English and Dari and/or Pashto, both written and spoken
Interpersonal and communication skills
Experience of planning, reporting
Being an Afghan citizen

Main Responsibilities:

To conduct training for LHL teachers
To facilitate selection of LHL teachers
To ensure enough supply (stationary, books, teaching material, etc.) for classes and plan for re supplying in advance.
Develop and follow an action plan to establish and supervise classes.
To be prepared for each training session
Upgrading the level of knowledge of the trainees

Supervisory Tasks

Supervises that LHL classes are running according with SCA policy and education directives
Supervises teacher performances
Supervises that teaching is in accordance with plans and curriculum
At least 75% of time should be in field

Training tasks

Assesses the training needs of the LHL Teachers
Conducts on the job training specially in the beginning of the LHL Teachers employment
Gives model lessons in classes
Trains LHL Teachers in teaching methodologies
Conducts workshops and seminars for LHL teachers as per project plan
Develops community participation and promotes education awareness among community members

General:

Act according to the policy and regulations of SCA and SCA health directives
Keep updated with issues related to SCA and the environment where SCA operates
Promote an attitude of team spirit and a strong focus on quality of health services
Develop good co-operation with SCA units, authorities, institutions and other NGOs
Do related jobs as delegated by the Line supervisor

Tasks of inter organizational relation

Promotes gender equality, non-discrimination with regard to ethnic, political and religious background
To participate in workshops, seminars & conference organized by the Health Programme
Promotes good coordination with other SCA projects

Tasks of relation with external agencies

Maintain good cooperative relation with the national and provincial authorities, CDCs, UN agencies, NGOs and other stakeholders
To participate actively in ensuring broad understanding and acceptance by local communities of the Mazar project and SCA in general
To actively ensure community participation in Mazar project
