SCA Background

The Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA) has been working in Afghanistan since 1982, presently managing development programmes concerning Health, Education, Rural Livelihoods and Community Governance, with a total annual budget of roughly USD 40 million. The total number of staff is around 5,500. During the last 10 years SCA has undertaken a change process moving from a primarily humanitarian service delivery approach towards more of a developmental role, putting increasing emphasis on capacity development, rights-based programming and outcome orientation. The mission of SCA is to empower individuals, communities and local organizations, primarily in rural areas and with particular focus on women, girls, boys and vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities, so that they may participate fully in society and influence their own development. Scope of work:

Learning for Healthy Life (LHL) is a component of SCA’s RH project to support utilization of RMNCHA services in the remote area of the country particularly where SCA is implementing the BPHS. This initiative is inspired by the need to improve the community understanding about the health-related issues and promote the literacy level of females. The LHL Supervisor is responsible for planning, organizing, facilitating, implementing, supervising and monitoring of the LHL classes at the community level. She will work in close cooperation and coordination with other relevant unites for successful implementation of the project

Qualifications & Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree on social science or midwifery or graduated from community midwifery/nursing schools
Having at least 2 years of working experience in supervision, or training of HFs or education facilities
Skill on using of computer (MS. office level) 
Familiar in the province and able to conduct field visit to all districts of Wardak province
She must be a good team player and be able to work in under pressure conditions/circumstances
She must have good communication skills
Has the ability to write and speak local languages (Pashto, Dari) and English

Main Responsibilities:

Supervision of that LHL classes and ensure that classes are running according to SCA/LHL guideline and education directorate
Community mobilization and selection of site for LHL classes and finding qualified teacher/facilitators
Support LHL facilitators on using proper methodology and delivering message to the LHL students
Ensure that all LHL classes are following approved/update MoE curriculum
At least 75% of time should be in field to ensure functionally of LHL classes
Able to conduct ToT training for LHL teachers/facilitators on using different teaching methodology
Facilitate/support selection process of LHL teachers/facilitators
Conduct handwashing and health education session for LHL classes to promote health behavior of the students
Ensure timely supply (stationary, books, equipment and teaching material, etc) for classes and plan for re supplying in advance.

Assesses the training needs of LHL Teachers and plan training session accordingly
Conducts on job training specially in the beginning of the LHL classes for LHL teachers and facilitate model lesion/teaching session in the classes
Develops community participation and promotes education awareness among community members

Promotes gender equality, non-discrimination about ethnic, political and religious background
Ensure linkage of LHL classes with the nearest HFs midwives to facilitate health education session particularly on MCH related topics of FP, ANC, PNC and SBA

Maintain good cooperative relation with the national and provincial authorities, PED, PPHD, district level education authorities, and other stakeholders
Facilitate baseline assessment and final assessment of the LHL classes and share result with PED and SCA authorities
Prepare LHL students educational documents such result sheet, certificate and ensure validity/registration of the mentioned documents with PED to support qualification of graduated women on the level of 3rd classes
