OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

1.Violence and Injury Prevention

To assist Member States with policies and multisectoral action to prevent and reduce death, morbidity, trauma and disability resulting from violence and injuries, particularly those related to road traffic crashes, drowning and interpersonal violence against women, children and youth.

• Member States supported to develop, strengthen, implement and evaluate national strategies, plans and programmes for violence and injury prevention;

• Assistance provided in building technical capacity at all levels in order to strengthen the response to violence and injuries, including surveillance, evidence-based practice and evaluation;

• Regional networks established and strengthened to share best practices and to promote concerted actions across sectors and countries;

• Magnitudes and trends of violence and injury in the region monitored and reported; and

• Resources mobilized for injury and violence prevention at various levels.

2.Harmful use of alcohol\:

To assist Member States in reducing harmful use of alcohol.

• Report of systematic review of alcohol control policy, legislation, plans and programmes.

• Report of thematic reviews in major areas such as the five high-impact strategies that can help governments reduce the harmful use of alcohol and related health, social and economic consequences\:

-Strengthen restrictions on alcohol availability

-Advance and enforce drink-driving countermeasures

-Facilitate access to screening, brief interventions and treatment.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the supervision of the Principal Administrative Assistant, Division of Healthy Environments and Populations (DHP), the incumbent performs the following functions\:


1) Screens incoming correspondence, documents and reports and routes to the supervisor with full background materials, ensures their distribution and follows up on deadlines;

2) Takes/transcribes nontechnical and technical correspondence, reports, etc., from dictation, tapes and manuscripts, using word processing equipment, ensures grammatical accuracy, conformity with procedural accuracy and format;

3) Drafts/prepares correspondence not involving policy or technical knowledge on brief instructions or own initiative; types statements, reports, studies including statistical tables, etc. from manuscripts using traditional or word processing equipment;

4) Arranges appointments of supervisor, receives visitors, places and screens telephone calls, responds to routine requests for information, and prepares briefing folders for supervisor's duty travels;

5) Maintains general and project files;

6) Assists in undertaking searches, compiling and maintaining information relevant to the programme. Maintains appropriate follow-up systems on status of programme implementation;

7) Provides support in the arrangements for meetings, workshops and training courses, including preparation of related folders;

8) Provides secretarial and clerical support to visiting staff and consultants as and when required;

9) Occasionally replaces secretarial staff within the Division during their absence, as coordinated by the first-level supervisors; and

10) Performs other related duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential\: Equivalent to graduation from secondary school preferably with thorough training in secretarial and clerical.
Desirable\: Formal or self-training in the use of standard office software and/or training in Oracle-based or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems is an asset. Secretarial/administrative training is also an advantage.

Experience

Essential\: Three years' experience in secretarial/clerical posts, preferably, including experience in WHO or in another international organization.
Desirable\: Experience working in a large or an international organization. Experience in the use of standard office software in Oracle-based or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.

Skills

Thorough knowledge of office procedures.

Ability to discern routine from a nonroutine.

REMUNERATION

WHO offers staff in the General Services category an attractive remuneration package, which for the above position includes an annual net base salary starting at PHP 511,035 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
