The mission of the Green Climate Fund is to assist developing countries to respond to climate change while bringing prosperity to their peoples.

Established in 2010, the GCF invests in transformational climate projects in the developing world. The Fund makes an ambitious contribution to global climate action and channels significant financial resources into developing countries to help build low-emission and climate-resilient societies.  It is country-driven and undertakes actions that reflect the circumstances of each country concerned and its national aspirations. The GCF is a key enabler of the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

Since its establishment, the GCF has approved 111 projects in 99 countries and has committed USD 5.0 billion in climate finance. In addition, it has built up an extensive program to support developing countries to identify their needs, in particular, those who are most vulnerable to climate change impacts.

Position description 

The Knowledge Management Specialist, reporting to the Head of Knowledge and Change Management (KCM), will be responsible for day-to-day implementation of the Knowledge Management System, while also contributing to its evolution. S/he will develop and implement initiatives and tools contributing to the KM Strategy objectives. Under the guidance of the Head of KCM, the KM Specialist’s duties include but are not limited to the following:

 

Duties and responsibilities

Purpose

  • Review and enhance the current processes for assessing and meeting the requirements of knowledge needs
  • Coordinate the implementation and adaptive evolution of a KM System that leads to the expansion and replication of knowledge on transformative climate investment
  • Based on global best practices, identify and pursue opportunities to develop knowledge products, KM tools, initiatives, a collaborative culture and enabling environment for knowledge generation, capture and sharing that improves the efficiency and effectiveness of GCF’s operations
  • Advise on and draft various KM initiatives in line with the GCF’s overall & KM strategies and other guiding documents in line with country needs
  • Design and operationalize KM practices to help manage change in GCF’s core-business and operations

Engagement

  • Collaborate with internal divisions and offices to integrate and incentivize KM practices into staff member’s day-to-day and key KM-related work
  • Secure collaboration from colleagues and identify mutual and complementary interests for effective change management processes 
  • Initiate and develop innovative approaches, tools, metrics and strategies for stimulating effective knowledge sharing partnerships
  • Contribute to GCF’s active participation in the global communities of practice in KM
  • Put in place initiatives to gather and harness tacit knowledge anchored on GCF’s operations both at the organizational level and with the countries

 

Delivery

  • Ensure timely development of knowledge capture and sharing strategies, tools, platforms, taxonomy, ICT systems, and other elements of the KMS, for both explicit and tacit knowledge practices with the view of replicating good practices
  • Develop a framework and lead efforts to regularly measure and report on the results of knowledge to demonstrate the value of knowledge
  • Develop engagement and communication work plan to facilitate effective change management and support the Head of KCM in its implementation
  • Establish mechanisms for capturing knowledge on best practices and documenting lessons learned from the Fund’s operations, and project life cycle to make them more effective and efficient
  • Lead timely reporting to the GCF Board and other groups of stakeholders on the Secretariat’s KM work as required

 

Required experience and qualifications*

  • Masters level degree in a relevant field, including business administration, public administration, public policy, education, climate change etc.;
  • A minimum of 9 years of experience relevant to knowledge management, including experience in or working with developing countries, climate change/finance and international organizations;
  • Experience in participating in institutional change, and cohesiveness initiatives;
  • Strong research, analysis skills and visualization;
  • Strong ICT literacy;
  • Strong and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively in a diverse environment and create conducive environment for trust and collaboration;
  • Exceptional planning, organizational and coordination skills;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English is essential; knowledge of another United Nations language is an advantage.
