Job Description

SCOPE OF INTERN WORK:

The HOPE (Human trafficking Outreach, Prevention, and Education) program identifies and serves foreign victims of human trafficking. IRC personnel conduct intake interviews to ensure that clients qualify to be enrolled in program. They also secure housing, food, and clothing, and assist clients in procuring services. The anti-human trafficking department orients clients to their new environment, and aids them in learning how to navigate systems in the United States so they can become self-sufficient. They also assist in physical and mental health services, safety planning, and police investigations, when necessary. The IRC provides up to 1 year of financial support and other assistance to ensure clients have: safe and affordable housing, all-encompassing medical care, access to necessary social services, school enrollment for children, ESL enrollment for adults, legal aid, and more.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate with staff to ensure appropriate services are being received
  • Conduct interviews to ensure that clients qualify, secure housing and assist clients in procuring necessary services
  • Manage client files and track necessary services
  • Perform outreach activities and occasionally train community members on identifying victims of human trafficking.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and appearance as an IRC representative
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong verbal and written skills in Spanish, Tagalog, Mandarin, or Russian desirable, but not required.
  • Enthusiastic about helping others, and the desire to meet high needs of clients.
  • Strong interpersonal skills:  the ability to work sensitively with clients, partners, and colleagues in a cross cultural, multi-disciplinary environment.
  • The ability to think creatively and problem-solve effectively.
  • Solid organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, effectively manage time and meet deadlines; the ability to think creatively and problem-solve effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including outlook, word and excel.
  • Preferred, but not required skills: Social Media, Design, and Web Development.
  • Must have driver’s license, vehicle, auto insurance and clean driving record

This position reports to the Anti-Trafficking Coordinator

  • This is an unpaid internship.
  • Work related driving is eligible for reimbursement at the charitable mileage rate.
  • Internships are available for current college students, graduate students, and graduates less than 2 years post-graduation.  Course credit and transcript notation are available if the student submits the appropriate paperwork to the Volunteer Specialist.
