STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Secondary Degree with certificate in related areas such as: Public Health, Nursing; Nutrition; Rural Development, or any other Social Sciences;

Language:

  • Fluency in spoken and written Portuguese and relevant local languages.
  • Good understanding of English is ideal.
ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

These jobs are found in Regional Bureaux (RBs), Country Offices (COs), Area/Field Offices (AOs/FOs). Under the direct supervision of WFP Head of Sub office, the Nutrition Programme Assistant (NPA) will support and build the districts authorities and cooperating partners (CPs) capacities in implementing and monitoring WFP supported nutrition interventions in Zambézia & Sofala province.

JOB PURPOSE

The Nutrition Programme Associate will contribute to strengthen skills and build capacities of government authorities at Provincial level and district level, through mentoring, coaching and on-the-job training.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
  • Support the district Governments and Cooperating partners in coordinating and ensure that MAM treatment core activities supported by WFP at Provincial/District levels are implemented with quality and timely;
  • Support the provincial nutrition clusters’ action plans to respond to the nutrition humanitarian needs in the districts affected;
  • Timely support to the development of internal WFP SO’s nutrition response plans (work plan, budget) for submission to CO’s approval;
  • Determining needs for nutrition intervention and develop an action plan;
  • Provide administrative support in subject matters related to nutrition;  
  • Liaise with DPS’s clinical partners (where available) to support the response through cases follow up with their community health workers at community level;
  • Monitoring the implementing activities using corporate indicators;
  • Forecasting on nutrition supplies and needs for the assigned district: RUSF, Super cereal and Non-Food Items, health personnel and WFP field monitors training, and supervision;
  • Training on PRN I and II for both health staff and health partners involved in the nutrition response;
  • Contribute to the Food Security Provincial cluster work plan to ensure alignment with the Provincial Nutrition Cluster work plan.

OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience and knowledge of Nutrition intervention
  • At least 1 year of postgraduate progressively responsible professional experience in Public Nutrition and/or Public Health & Nutrition Programme management, Programme formulation, planning, monitoring and evaluation in public sector public health management or related field is an advantage
  • Experience in direct implementation of IMAM, micronutrient supplementation, maternal health and nutrition Programme and multi-sectoral responses addressing the underlying causes of undernutrition
  • Familiarization with latest developments, guidelines and standards, and technology in the field of Nutrition, especially in the prevention and treatment of maternal, neonatal and child undernutrition
  • Experience working in partnership with NGOs, government and civil society
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
  • UN experience, especially with WFP or UNICEF
  • Cluster experience
DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

• Has worked with technical teams (i.e. nutrition, VAM, etc.).
• Has contributed to implementation of programmes.
• Has observed or assisted with policy discussions.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Duration of assignment: 9 months ( Sofala) and 10 months ( Zambezia) Respectively.
