Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Associate Public Information Officer, the UN Volunteer Public Information Specialist will:

Contribute to the development and implementation of communication and outreach/advocacy strategies and plans

  • Design, develop, and implement communication and outreach/advocacy strategies and plans tailored to the different stakeholders;
  • Monitor and analyse print, visual and social media and prepare reports.

Contribute to the development and dissemination of communication materials globally

  • Develop and produce communication materials, including briefing materials, press releases, newsletters and articles and support their dissemination through effective channels;
  • Design and production of videos and raising awareness campaign on UNICRI’s work;
  • Identify relevant stakeholders to be engaged;
  • Prepare related correspondence, talking points and background information;
  • Support the organization of roundtable discussions and interviews.

Contribute to UNICRI’s web/ online activities

  • Support the management of UNICRI’s websites, including developing the design and content;
  • Contribute to the management of UNICRI’s social media, including preparing posts in line with the corporate social media policy.

Facilitate knowledge building and sharing

  • Identify and synthesize best practices and lessons learned from UNICRI’s programmes and ensure exchange of information;
  • Support the organization of events including workshops and training activities;
  • Liaise with and provide support to the partners and experts involved in the events of UNICRI;
  • Liaise with local stakeholders and support the preparation of materials in Italian to be transmitted to local beneficiaries and posted in the Italian website managed by UNICRI;
  • Any other job-related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Master degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:

Advanced University degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, public relations, journalism or other similar fields is required; a first-level university degree or equivalent in combination with 2 additional years of relevant professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree

Required experience: 60 Months Experience remark:
  • At least 5 years of professional work experience at national or international level in public information and reporting is required. Experience in the use of social media, in websites management and in the production of audiovisual materials is required. Relevant working experience with media (including Italian media) is highly desirable. Experience with the United Nations or other similar large international organizations is desirable.
  • The applicants are expected to have affinity with or interest in UNICRI and in particular topics related to crime prevention and justice, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
