Development Manager
Location: Flexible base in London (requires travel across London)
Contract type: Fixed Term to 31st July 2021 (opportunity for permanent contract)
Hours per week: Full time, 35hrs Monday to Friday.
Salary: c. GBP 34,000 per annum

The British Red Cross has an exciting opportunity for an individual with a strong background in external engagement, influencing for change, and partnership and business development to join our team as a Development Manager for London.

Working alongside our wider Independent Living and Crisis Response operational teams across London you will help enhance the difference we make to those in need, by cultivating positive working relationships with key stakeholders across the capital, primarily in health and social care, whilst growing our services and enhancing our position as a trusted and expert service provider in this space.

You will play a key role in driving Independent Living / Crisis Response service and business development to embed BRC's offer at a local level, with a focus on where the need is greatest. You will work in close collaboration with the area Operation streams, the central Innovation and Insight Directorate, and the UK Contracts and Fundraising teams to secure funding and partnership opportunities to deliver a consistent, sustainable and person-centred service offer, aligned with national guidelines, strategies and KPIs. You will also work with the Policy and Advocacy directorate to help ensure our policy position is shaped by operational practice, and to share evidence on the impact of our work.

You will be the key local liaison point for the successful initial implementation of new project opportunities developed nationally, and you will be the accountable manager for ensuring that such new projects are effectively established in your area, in partnership with the Implementation and Project Support manager.

This role is ideal for a natural networker who has experience of service development with statutory and voluntary agencies and local government. An existing network gained from other roles in this environment and a background in developing creative,collaborative partnerships to produce results would be advantageous.

The Independent Living & Crisis Response service (IL/CR) supports people in the space between hospital and home and responds to the needs of people in crisis following an emergency; maintaining an extensive network of external relationships across health, social care, and emergency services. A dedicated and experienced team of staff and volunteers, we thrive on the impact of what we do to help people when they need it most.

About you...

In order to be successful in this position you must have the following skills and experience:

Working knowledge of the heath and care structure in London; key influencers,  decision makers and potential partners

Experience of service development with local government, statutory and voluntary agencies on a frequent and regular basis and achieving agreed outcomes

Knowledge and understanding of the roles, functions and purpose of statutory and non-statutory agencies

Track record of developing new business from inception to delivery using a collaborative approach

A proven strategic thinker, with the ability to develop and implement programme packages in response to identified needs

Strong influencing and communication skills (both written and spoken), comfortable operating in a range of environments and across levels of seniority

Good commercial acumen with experience of setting and managing budgets, and delivering against targets

Working knowledge of legislation relevant to the delivery of BRC services

Able to work and travel throughout the London area as appropriate.
