Background

This assignment is part of the Youth Development Delegates in the Arab region initiative, which is in partnership with the Arab Youth Center. This partnership seeks to achieve both parties common vision of empowering youth in the Arab region to work on projects specializing in youth development. This will come to fruition through the youth coordinating, advocating, planning and evaluating the Youth Leadership Programme in their respective countries, under the guidance of the UNDP Youth Focal Points. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

The objective of this assignment is to support youth programming at the Country Office and support the implementation of the Youth Leadership programme (YLP) in Jordan as well as the regional and global level. The Project Associate will work under the supervision and guidance of the UNDP Youth Focal Point. S/he will be an integral part of the UNDP Country office and Regional Programme team and will play an important role supporting UNDP’s Country Offices and partners, with a strong focus on coordination, advocacy, planning, and evaluation.

Under the direct supervision of the Youth Focal Point, and the overall supervision and guidance of the Program Manager, and in close coordination with the Regional Coordinator for all YLP issues, the Project Associate will contribute to the effective delivery of the CO’s youth programming by supporting programme implementation, data collection, management and analysis

Under the direct supervision of the Youth Focal Point, and in close coordination with the Regional Coordinator, Regional Programme, the Project Assistant will particularly be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Provides regular support in defining the scope and depth of a youth desk research to gather necessary evidence and key data that explain the overall position of youth in Jordan and the main challenges they face in specific sectors and/or under thematic areas to feed into the COs youth action plan.
  • Supports the Jordan CO in developing a youth database covering UNDP Jordan’s thematic areas of the CPD and assist in analyzing trends by using innovative use for data collection and analysis
  • Directly supports the YLP activities in coordination with the CO youth focal point by following up on implementation, coordinating with partners and other COs from the region, creating linkages and providing technical, capacity building and mentorship support where relevant.
  • Contributes to strategic planning, developing innovative responses to emerging challenges and opportunities around the SDGs for youth in Jordan and the Arab region.
  • Supports the timely preparation and quality control of all substantive technical reports, briefs and required documents, including progress reports, concept notes, background documents and briefing notes.
  • Works closely with the regional team members in close coordination with the relevant thematic pillars in the Jordan CO in the development of project activities to promote youth’s social, political and economic empowerment in the Arab region.
  • Facilitates the delivery of YLP activities and other ongoing Youth-led Initiatives under the CO thematic areas by monitoring results achieved during implementation. S/he will ensure the appropriate application of monitoring, reporting and evaluation systems and procedures.
  • Captures stories which reflect on know how (procedures, processes, tactics) and know why (lessons learned, reasons for failures/success) and impact (human stories reflecting impact of UNDP CO’s programming and activities).
  • Conducts an overview and analysis of the relevant partners, donors and stakeholders working on youth in Jordan and to the YLP program and develops a plan for efficient flow of information between the different programs at the CO, and vice versa.
  • Develops general tools/guidelines for operative communication measures at regional/national/local levels, for instance press releases, social media, press events, social media and campaigns.
  • Expected to submit report at the end of the year to supervisor and the Regional Coordinator.
  • Provides assistance to YLP partners in Jordan and carrying out other tasks related to the Program as assigned by the YLP Regional Coordinator in close coordination with the CO youth Focal point and Program Manager, in addition to providing assistance for any, other required administrative work.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, social sciences, innovation, design research or other related field.

Experience:

2 years of relevant work experience.

Language Requirements:

Written and oral English and Arabic communication skills
