Job Description

Job Summary

The New Roots program is a multifaceted food security program that supports refugee integration through urban farming, gardening, food access and education. The New Roots Community Development Coordinator focuses on supporting the program’s community outreach and education initiatives through the development of the Camelback Yard Community Food Hub. This position reports to the New Roots Program Manager in the Phoenix office.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate community food hub activities including organizing site tours, events, workshops and trainings as well as community outreach and engagement.
  • Work with New Roots Local Food Coordinator to conduct outreach and manage the weekly New Roots Farm Stand.
  • Facilitate educational workshops on nutrition education, safe food handling and healthy cooking at the community food hub.
  • Provide technical assistance and training for urban farm business development.
  • Ensure regular community engagement and capacity building through advisory board meetings, ToT and leadership programming as well as participant feedback surveys.
  • Collaborate with New Roots Coordinator to design and implement infrastructure projects onsite.
  • Hold regular office hours for financial coaching on the Camelback Corridor.
  • Collaborate with Economic Empowerment team to achieve joint Economic Empowerment and New Roots objectives.
  • Ensure programming activities align to grant requirements and outcomes.
  • Contribute to grant writing and other New Roots funding opportunities.
  • Responsible for monitoring and evaluation, data collection and reporting required under multiple grant initiatives.
  • Comply with all IRC policies, procedures and protocols including adherence to the IRC Way and Child Safeguarding.
  • Other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree required with a focus in community development, community organizing, food systems or other related field.
  • At least two years’ previous related professional experience in program coordination.
  • Demonstrated experience with community organizing and engagement, particularly with disadvantaged communities and related food justice and equity, food systems, agriculture or health/nutrition preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of sustainable and organic production.
  • Strong organizational skills, motivated, flexible and able to work independently.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English, bilingual ability a plus.
  • Ability to communicate with limited-English speakers.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.
  • Computer literacy, data base experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and be a flexible team-player.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, active insurance policy and access to reliable personal transportation.
  • Must have or be eligible to receive a valid Fingerprint Clearance card.
  • Able to lift 30 lbs.
