Description of task

Under the direct supervision of Chief Planning, the Logisitic Assistant will undertake the following tasks:

  • Review UN Security Council Resolutions, Integrated Strategic Framework, Mission Concept, Military/Police CONOPS and other policy and operational planning documents requiring mission support inputs and planning.
  • Advise Chief Planning Unit and Chief MSC regarding future operations and activities of the Force/Police and substantive components. Accordingly, advise all supported components about Mission Support capabilities to ensure integrated planning at the strategic and operational level.
  • Participate in all mission planning activities and provide inputs from mission support after necessary approval from Chief Planning Unit and Chief MSC.
  • Prepare Mission Support Plan and logistics annexes to any other mission level plan. Ensure that gender specific needs have been taken into consideration in planning and preparation of policy documents, guidance and Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensure that environmental rules, regulations and guidelines of host government and the UN are incorporated in all plans.
  • Timely anticipate and plan future operations and activities in medium to long-term time frame.
  • Participate in regular VTCs with UNHQ. Provide mission planning perspective to these entities in UNHQ and understand their plans for mission.
  • Participate in planning activities of substantive and Force/Police operations to provide Mission Support inputs and ensure that these are incorporated in overall planning.
  • Work closely with MSC Contingent Owned Equipment (COE) Unit to understand the status of troops/police deployment and COE in the mission. Analyse implications for future operations and mission posture/configuration.
  • Anticipate need of policy/guidance/SOP documents for mission support and draft these under the guidance of Chief Planning Unit/Chief MSC.
  • Prepare briefing notes, presentations and other official documents related to MSC Planning Unit or as assigned by Chief MSC

Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Secondary education Education - Additional Comments:

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Recognized technical or vocational certificate in logistics, transportation, or supply chain management, is a requirement.

Required experience: 36 Months Experience remark:

A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in field logistics operations, supply chain management, large-scale fleet management or related area is required.

Language skills:
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
Area of expertise: Logistics and supply management Area of expertise details:
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • A valid Driver's license, including the ability to operate a manual-transmission light vehicle in 4x4 conditions, is required.

  • Working knowledge of French is highly desirable.
