OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

 

Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information, the guidance of the Chief of Innovation and Digital Transformation Section, and in cooperation with Programme Specialists, the Consultant will work towards achievement of UNESCO’s objective to promote Internet Universality ROAM framework and indicators along the 40 C/5 Programme and Budget, related Expected Results and Performance Indicators.

 

The Junior Consultant will support the work of Sector within the framework of Major Programme V’s Main Line of Action 3 that Media development is strengthened, and Member States have improved monitoring and reporting systems, and these results are reinforced by external grassroots projects supported by the IPDC through the overall implementation of Internet Universality Indicators and conducting below tasks:

 

  1. Provide overall support to the  promotion and implementation process of the Internet Universality ROAM principles and Indicator at national level following the UNESCO IPDC council Resolution as adopted at its 31st session in November 2018.
  2.  Support UNESCO  partners and national stakeholders to conduct the national assessments of Internet Universality indicators in five continents and the follow up the publishing and communication strategy.
  3. Support the organizational matters related to the global, regional and national advocacy events and training workshops for implementing the Internet Universality indicators.
  4. Contribute to the preparations and editing of the related correspondences, briefings, bidding documents, reports, background papers, speeches, policy guidelines related to the project.
  5. Conduct and edit the research draft, reviewing the translations, producing and distributing publications, updating and maintaining the  Internet Universality community, news letter, web news, website maintenance and public communication campaigns.

DELIVERABLES:

 

1. Monthly reports including the achievements and pending activities for the effective accomplishments of the tasks, together with other related outcome such as: Communication materials (e.g. articles, brochures, publications) produced during the contract;

 

2. Final Report at the end of contract period summarizing activities completed during the contract.

Education

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Humanities and Social Sciences, law, public policy, Internet governance, project management, etc.

 

Experience

  • At least 2 years of research, editorial, communication and project management experience at national and international level.

 

 Language skills

  • Excellent knowledge (written and oral) of English.

  • Ability to work under pressure;
  • Solid computer skills including advanced knowledge of office software such as Word and Excel.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Good understanding of Internet Universality project and knowledge of human rights and international standards related to Internet governance.
  • Experience with UNESCO and/or the United Nations system and understanding of their functioning and procedures would be an asset.
  • Working knowledge of French, Spanish or Arabic will be an asset.
