Org. Setting and Reporting

The Department of Operational Support (DOS) provides end-to-end operational support, advisory services and other solutions to the operating entities across the Secretariat, including other departments, offices-away-from-headquarters, field missions, and regional commissions.

The Capacity Development Operational Training Service (CDOTS) provides operational training, including training on the enterprise resource management system known as Umoja.

The internship is located with the Capacity Development Operational Training Service (CDOTS), within the Department of Operational Support (DOS).

The intern reports to the chief of the system training unit.

The internship is for a minimum of three months with a possibility of extension up to six months.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of the staff member mentioned above.

Responsibilities

The intern will be assigned to the Umoja Training Team and will be part of a group of training specialist resources responsible for developing training content and delivering standards to prepare the users to the new system functionalities. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Following the provided standards, guidelines and defined templates, assist with the development of instructional materials (tutorials, digital interactives material, user guides, audio and video scripts, story boards, tests, etc.) transforming technical information into professionally written, engaging instructions;

• Maintain existing template and develop new template(s), instructions and guidelines for content creation and publishing framework. Assist and support content developers in troubleshooting the chosen authoring tools, research and advise training team on best industry practice and standard for capturing screens, packaging training module, building interactive SCORM tutorials, developing training aids, course tests, evaluations and assessments for certification;

• Creates visual templates, infographics, animations and other graphic design elements to enrich the training materials;

• Design and deliver wireframes, personas, user journeys, and mockups around user's learning needs, and communicate the ideas to developers;

•Conduct concept and usability testing and gather feedback.

Education

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in the areas of ; (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;

Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Applicants should preferably be enrolled in a programme (see point a and b) or have graduated (see point c) in the area of graphic design, visual art, instructional design, contents design, communication design or technical writing.

Be computer literate in standard software applications and be knowledgeable in Adobe Creative Suite products (InDesign, Illustrator, Animation and Photoshop), experience with Adobe Captivate is desirable. Experiences in user experience design (including but not limited to user research, prototyping, user testing and visual design) is desirable.

Work Experience

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.
