Job Description

Background:

The International Rescue Committee helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their future. The IRC in Tallahassee opened in 2015, in response to the refugee crisis, helping over 100 refugees per year.

Scope of Service:

The Volunteer Coordinator is a one-year position that will help manage and further develop a mentoring and tutoring program to assist refugee youth and young adults. The Volunteer Coordinator will recruit, interview and train volunteers and mentors that will be matched with refugee clients. The Volunteer Coordinator will work with IRC staff to establish a work group to assist with the fundraising goals to support the refugee youth tutoring program and to help students achieve academic success. This position will report to Una Bilic, Site Manager. Living Allowance $479.08 Bi-Weekly

Responsibilities

  • Manage a tutoring program to assist refugee youth and young adults to improve reading skills and ESL proficiency.
  • Recruit, interview and train a minimum of 25 volunteer tutors to tutor 50 refugee youth.
  • Work with IRC staff to establish a work group to assist with the fundraising goals to support the refugee youth tutoring program and to help students achieve academic success.

Requirements:

  • Training or experience in community organization with emphasis on youth services
  • Knowledge on fundraising and grant writing.
  • Experience working with external partners and volunteers to accomplish recruitment and developmental goals.
  • Excellent communication skills, with fluency in written and spoken English. Bilingual ability in one of the predominant languages of the local client base is desired.
  • Proven success achieving goals and working effectively with all levels of staff in a multicultural environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Must be a US citizen or legal permanent resident and authorized to work in the U. S.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a undergraduate degree.
  • Must commit to one full year of service.
