Protection Officer -Capacity Building Officer

Who are we?

 The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. Using a protection of human rights framework, DRC has mainly focused on Somalis who are displaced by conflict. Programmers include protection, livelihood, food and NFI distribution, water and sanitation, and advocacy amongst others. DRC Yemen has been providing relief and development services in Yemen since 2008. DRC has mainly focused on refugees and migrants displaced by conflict and natural disasters.

DRC, through its specialized business unit, Danish Demining Group (DDG) aims to recreate a safe environment where people can live without the threat of landmines, unexploded ordinances and small arms and light weapons”. These goals can be effectively advanced through cooperation and joint action with other organization as well as with integration of operations and programs with its sister organization, DRC.

 

About the job:

Duties and Responsibilities  

  1. Technical support 

• Undertake capacity assessments of the local partners on Child protection    prevention and response activities (including reflection workshops) with the support of the Protection Specialist, and in coordination with the Protection Manager; 

  • Develop comprehensive capacity building plans for local partners and based on respective needs and ensuring quality interventions;
  • Provide trainings based on the harmonized training packages to local partners ;
  • Facilitate trainings on Child protection   response, as well as general protection principles to DRC’s partners and internal staff;  
  • Oversee the provision of trainings on organizational capacity in coordination with Protection Manager;
  • Identify technical gaps in the program and identify/implement solutions to meet these gaps;

b. Grant implementation and reporting

  • Ensure the implementation of the capacity building plans and conduct site visits to the partners regularly
  • Produce monthly reports on the progression of the capacity building plans. 
  • Contribute to the overall protection/CS weekly/monthly report underlining protection issues and related trends and figures in coordination with the Protection Manager;

 

 

About you

To be successful in this role you must have:

Experience and technical competencies:

  • Training skills with strong experience;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination and safety of client at all times; 
  • Ability to provide technical support, trainings and supervision of Child Protection staff; 
  • Strong ability to organize work, meet deadlines, maintain composure, prioritize work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail.
  •  Knowledge, skills and experience in community development and mobilization.
  • Experience in conducting training needs analysis/assessments and developing training programs for a broad range of audiences from different institutional levels;
  •  Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity and flexibility.
  • Flexibility in working overtime when needed; 
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel); 
  •  Experience in management and leading team-building activities; 
  •  Proven experience in undertaking trainings and capacity building initiatives; 
  •  Experience in building capacities of local partners and providing direct technical support to local organizations
  •  Strong written and oral communication skills, effective in representation and liaison with external parties.

Education:

  • Bachelor in Social work, women’s studies or another related field

Languages:

  • Arabic – Fluent
  • English – Fluent

 

We offer

DRC will offer the successful applicant a contract  ends in 31 December 2020, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. You must be available to start work  As soon as possible, and be willing and able to work in Sana’a.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment. This position will be placed at Band (H Non- Manager).
