IRC Background: The IRC opened an office in Seattle in 1976 and provides immediate resettlement assistance, employment assistance, intensive case management, immigration services, health and wellness programs, and education support.
Job Overview: The vision of the IRC Seattle Youth Program is that refugee youth will have the skills and resources necessary to pursue a future of opportunity. The Youth Program works towards this vision by providing educational and enrichment opportunities to help school-aged refugee youth catch up on their education, accelerate English Language Learning, and build positive relationships in the school and community. Programs support school-age refugee and immigrant youth and their families, along with providing support to teachers and school administration. The Youth Program Specialist will implement in-class support, after-school programs, case management, and summer programs, for refugee and immigrant youth. This will include program planning, curriculum development, direct instruction, program registration, supervision of volunteers and interns, and coordinating with school district staff and families.
Under the supervision of the Senior Youth Program Coordinator, the Youth Program Specialist is responsible for project implementation and day-to-day support of students enrolled in programming. This position ensures that goals and program objectives are accomplished in tandem with IRC staff, local school districts, refugee parents, refugee youth, community partners, and volunteers.
Major Responsibilities:
•Implement IRC Seattle’s Youth programs including in-class support, after-school programs, workshops, field trips, summer programs, and case management, as a lead instructor 3-4 days per week.
•Plan, coordinate, and implement culturally appropriate and level-appropriate curriculum to support targeted academic growth in ELL, Math, and Social and Emotional Learning, and engage students in academic support and enrichment activities.
•Identify and enroll refugee students in IRC Youth Programs; collect parent permission slips and program documentation.
•Regularly plan, coordinate and communicate with school district teachers, administration, and IRC Senior Youth Program Coordinator, in order to ensure programming in effective and coordinated, meeting the needs of youth, families, and schools.
•Research and develop new and innovative youth development programs to meet the needs of refugee youth in IRC Seattle’s Youth Programs.
•Create safe and healing learning spaces and build supportive relationships with refugee youth utilizing a trauma informed approach in order to support student’s academic, and long-term personal and professional goals.
•Assist with data collection and tracking to meet funder requirements and for internal program monitoring and evaluation.
•Supervise and support volunteers and interns assisting with youth programming, including after-school programs, tutoring services, and summer programs.
•Research and build knowledge of available services and programs offered within IRC, schools, districts, community colleges, universities, partner agencies, and social service providers, in order to make referrals and connect youth and families to additional programs and services as needed.
•Participate in all program meetings, staff development activities, and fully engage as a member of the IRC team.
•Comply with all policies, procedures, and protocols of the agency.
