Job Description

Under the supervision and direction of the Employment Supervisor, the Economic Empowerment Intern will help with a range of activities to help prepare refugee clients for their first jobs in the U.S.

Responsibilities:

·  Work individually with clients to create resumes, conduct job searches, complete applications, find networking opportunities, and help them understand U.S. work culture

·  Provide assistance and feedback for clients as they practice interview skills

·  Assist employment staff with a variety of projects and administration needs, such as filing and reviewing client records

·  Assist employment staff with other tasks as assigned

·  Minimum Commitment: Internship commitments typically run about 15 hours per week for a 4- to 6-month period.

Requirements:

  • Current undergrad, graduate student or recently graduated student with a focus in Economics, Adult Education, Sociology, Social Work, Political Science, Public Policy, or a related field·Must have a solid knowledge of resume writing criteria as well as employment practices.
  • Proficient computer and online search skills using programs such as MS Office, Windows, GoogleDrive, Google, LinkedIn, etc.
  • Must be comfortable reaching out to employers on the phone and in person.
  • Valid driver’s license and a vehicle with valid insurance are required.

This position reports to the Employment Supervisor

  • This is an unpaid internship.
  • Work-related driving is eligible for charitable mileage rate reimbursement.
  • Internships are available for current college students, graduate students, and graduates less than one year post-graduation. Course credit and transcript notation are available if the student submits the appropriate paperwork to the Volunteer and Donations Coordinator. #LI-DNI
