Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area.
Language: General Service (Headquarters): Fluency (level C) in English language. Fluency (level C) or intermediate knowledge (level B) of another official language may be required depending on the location of the post or area of responsibility.
General Service (Field): Fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station and in the duty station’s language, if different.
These jobs are found in Headquarters (HQ), Regional Bureaux (RB) and Country Offices (CO and Area/Field Offices. Job holders report to a Logistics Officer, Head of Unit or the designate.
At this level, job holders demonstrate responsibility and initiative to respond independently to queries with only general guidance for all assistance modalities for both WFP and logistics common services. There is a requirement to use judgment in dealing with unforeseen problems on a daily basis. Job holders typically manage a small team, supervising and coaching staff.
To provide specialized support functions and/or supervise staff performing standard logistics/supply chain processes and activities to enable effective delivery of goods and services for all delivery modalities.
- Provide specialized support to the Logistic Cluster operations and activities, following standard process and contributing to the effective storage and delivery of non-food items (NFIs).
- Assist with logistics operations including all logistics assets to ensure timely and cost effective storage and delivery of cargo under the directives from Logistics Cluster Officer.
- As directed by the Logistics Cluster Officer, help to manage the IOM Common Transport Service truck project for transporting cargo, preparing necessary documentation and follow-up with partner organizations.
- Support or oversee the loading and reception of partner charter cargo flights, prepare relevant documentation and make any necessary storage arrangements on behalf of partner organizations.
- Support or oversee the loading and reception of river barges and boats, creating necessary documentation such as loading plans, waybills, etc., and making necessary storage and transport arrangements.
- Supervise the work of support staff, providing practical advice and guidance to ensure individual and team objectives are delivered to agreed standards and deadlines. Raise any issues for discussion with the Logistics Cluster Officer.
- Regular visits to the warehouses, for physical verification of stored cargo and also support the storekeeper on best warehouse procedures.
- Report to the Logistics Cluster Officer on any complaints or challenges impacting on the daily operation.
- Identify, resolve and/or provide recommendations to the Logistics Cluster Officer on specialized queries/requests for support, using initiative and following standard processes, to ensure timely and accurate resolution of inquiries with excellent client service mindset.
- Maintain a positive relationship with Logistics Cluster partners in various duty stations.
- Support partners by supporting the Logistics Cluster Officer in dealing with complaints, feedback and recommendations effectively.
- Undertake other duties as required.
