Job Description

The Global Marketing & Communications team is a newly built unit at the International Rescue Committee. We have brought together four disciplines: Brand, Creative and Content, Planning and Operations, and Channel Development. This coordinated creative powerhouse is designed to accelerate the organization’s profile-building, influence, and revenue driving agendas in global markets, and enable an ambitious External Relations Strategy for FY20 and beyond.

Within this team lies the social media sub-team: a highly strategic and creative team that nurtures meaningful engagement with supporters and donors of the IRC. That’s where you come in!

This team member is an integral part of the creative and content team and has a genuine passion for best-in-class content, creative campaigns, ever-evolving algorithm changes, customer service, and for bringing innovation to the humanitarian space.

This role is both a big-picture and highly-detailed thinker – at the same time. This role isn’t scared to get their hands dirty while thinking about how to push boundaries. They learn from data but are also intuitive. They bring proactive ideas, react to 24/7 news cycle, and ensure a strong team cohesion along the way.

You’ll be overseeing all day-to-day social activity on our main corporate social media handles, partner with creative teams on content, lead on all online customer service, and support broader campaigns and partnerships.

It’s a connective, cross-cutting role that works across multiple time zones and across multiple teams. It requires being a strong relationship builder (internally and externally) and a connector-of-dots.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsible for all day-to-day social media execution and outreach on IRC-branded global channels (included but not limited to IRC’s main Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn accounts), and overseeing social media calendar.

  • Collaborate with creative team (design, video, writers) to produce original, best-in-class social media content that brings the IRC’s brand to life in a topical, authentic, and high-performing way.
  • Develop ongoing social media strategies for IRC campaigns, major partnerships and initiatives in partnership with Senior Officer– making sure to build on data, best practices, and our brand framework
  • Partner with digital colleagues across our different markets (UK, Germany, Sweden) to ensure global consistency, support, and alignment
  • Oversee all of IRC’s online supporter service; monitoring comments and messages, responding to comments, and liaising with the donor services team when needed
  • Research, build and nurture social media partnerships that increase our reach and engagement to key audiences
  • Find opportunities for content distribution on third party channels, collaborating with press leads
  • Build and maintain IRC’s first-ever global social media governance structure across multiple markets and languages
  • Alongside the Global Creative Strategy lead and Entertainment Relations team, support ongoing efforts of our Celebrity Ambassador program – including drafting social posts, brainstorming tactics, and finding opportunities for further collaboration
  • Monitor conversations online and identify opportunities to increase our brand, influence, and fundraising initiatives
  • Be the go-to expert on online trends; research and identify emerging social platforms that fit the brand as well as potential partnerships and outlets for social media growth
  • Guide and advise staff across the organization on effective and engaging opportunities to grow our online presence
  • Help measure, analyze and report on the impact of social media through data
  • Provide general communications support, including administrative tasks as required

Qualifications

Work Experience:

  • At least 3-5 years’ experience managing corporate social media accounts, either in-house or agency, and/or working in communications, PR, marketing or digital content roles

    Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of brand campaigns, social media content, online trends

  • Keen news judgment - ability to manage global, macro, political nuances alongside micro details on each social post

  • A leader and relationship builder that is creative, flexible, and proactive

  • Proficiency in social media channels, especially Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and tools like SproutSocial

    Preferred experience & skills:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree – preferably in Journalism, Communications, Social Media, Digital Marketing or equivalent

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills

  • Able to execute a project from start to finish independently – and on time!
  • Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic, cross-functional global team structure
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to manage and work through change in a proactive and positive manner.
