OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
Within the framework of the Multi-Donor Programme for Freedom of Expression and Journalists Safety (MDP) under the Major Programme V's Main Line of Action 1, and under the supervision of the Programme Officers and the Assistant Communications Officer, the Individual Consultant shall create selected social media animations of the World Trends in Freedom of Expression and Media Development In Focus Reports and the graphic design and layout of the Donor’s Report of the Multi-Donor Programme for Freedom of Expression and Safety of Journalists (MDP).

The Individual Specialist should design and produce eleven (11) animated loops for social media. The animations should approx. 5 seconds each.
Six of the graphic and illustrations are already designed and will be taken from the three In Focus Reports, namely: Access to Information, Media and Elections and Safety of Journalists. The Individual Consultant should design, in consultation with UNESCO, three (3) additional illustrations from the Media and Elections report
MDP Donor’s Report graphic design and layout
The Individual Consultant shall create the template, graphic elements and layout of the Donor’s report of the MDP. The Report is produced each year to provide a full analysis of the overall implementation and impact achieved
The Report will consist of approximately 70 - 100 pages (word document). The Work will contain maps, tables, charts, graphs, which the Individual Consultant will have to design, working closely with UNESCO.
The final report size should be A4 and the layout should follow a one-column style. The layout should be mobile reading-friendly.
The Individual Consultant should provide the InDesign packaged version of the report to allow UNESCO to make any modifications in the text and update graphic elements as required.
Based on the specifications above, the Individual Consultant shall produce, in close consultation with UNESCO, the following deliverables according to the submission deadlines (subject to modification):
DELIVERABLES:
World Trends Report In Focus series Animated graphics
Design and produce eleven (11) animated loops for social media (approx. 5 seconds each) which includes:
• Preparing existing graphic elements for animation
• Pre-visualising motion design
• Animation
• Preparing files for output
• Revised and final animations incorporating feedback
• Final web ready GIFs
Design three (3) illustrations from the Media and Elections report
Deadlines to be discussed. Estimated expected time for production: 2 weeks
MDP Donor’s Report graphic design and layout
Template
Prepare graphic design for publication template, which includes:
• Three (3) sample layout options using different graphic design concepts (colour palette, layout, and typography)
• Text styles (font type, size, boldness, color, alignment, etc.) for chapter titles, main titles, subtitles, boxes, captions, photo credits, quotes, footnotes and main text
• Revised and final template incorporating feedback
Cover / Back Cover Design
Graphic design for report cover
• Three (3) sample cover options using photo(s) provided by UNESCO
• Revised and final cover design incorporating feedback
Graphic Elements
Design and prepare graphic elements for report
• Tables, charts, maps and graphs
• Revised and final elements incorporating feedback

Document Layout
Produce full report based on approved template design

Education
• University degree (Bachelors or higher) or proven experience in graphic design, graphic arts, and/or communications.
Experience
• At least 5 years of experience in graphic design, and/or motion graphics animation
Language skills
• Excellent knowledge (written and oral) of English
Competencies and skills
• Proficiency in print, web and motion design, particularly graphic design for publications
• Proficiency in working on the Adobe Creative suite software (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects and InDesign)
• Excellent abilities to deliver creative solutions
• Experience with UNESCO and/or the United Nations system and understanding of their functioning and procedures would be an asset.
• Working knowledge of French, Spanish or Arabic will be an asset.
• Working experience as art director.
