UNICEF Malawi Country Programme (2019-2013) is aligned with the Government of Malawi’s Growth and Development Strategy (MDGS 111) and the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF). The programme supports the Government of Malawi to meet its commitment to respect, protect and fulfil children’s rights in line with international conventions and standards. The country programme is guided by the principles of children’s rights, equity, gender equality, inclusion and resilience, and supports evidence-based, integrative and innovative programming. The vision is that ‘all girls and boys in Malawi, especially the most disadvantaged and deprived, realize their rights’. The programme focuses on: early childhood (parenting, high-impact social services, early stimulation and learning), middle childhood and adolescence (learning, multi-sectoral services, active citizenship), communities (decentralized services and systems, community ownership, social norms), programme effectiveness (monitoring, evaluation, HACT, Innovation, Social Protection and Social Policy and External Communication. The programme is based on ‘leaving no child behind’, realizing ‘rights for all children in Malawi’.

How can you make a difference?

Join our dynamic team where you will be responsible for providing administrative and operational support services to the Chief of Operations.

In your role, you will report to the Chief of Operations 

Your duties will mainly include:  

  1. Administrative, executive assistance and operational support services provided to the Chief of Operations to facilitate smooth running of the Office and effective processing of information and data.

  2. Professional image projected through in-person and telephone interaction. Discretion exercised with confidential information and complex sensitive subject matter.

  3.  Knowledgeable delivery of quality services contributing to achievement of work objectives.

  4. Well managed and effective office operations, systems and procedures facilitates team work and the work of the office.

 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Education:

    • Completion of secondary education, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses related to Business Administration, is required.

    Experience

    • A minimum of 6 years of operational and administrative work experience is required.
    • Experience in accounting, financial or budget work experience, including on the job training in accounting and financial procedures and systems is an asset.
    • Knowledge and skills in using corporate financial systems as well as standard office computer applications is an asset.
    • IT Skills – Computer literacy and the ability to effectively use standard office software tools and other office technology to create documentation, exchange and archive e-mail, and maintain electronic filing systems is required.
    • Office Management Skills – Six years of office support work experience, including, organizing and supervising the whole range of office support and administrative activities. Ability to work with minimum of supervision. Ability to extract and format data and to solve operational problems is required.
    • Ability to organize own and others work, set priorities and meet deadlines. Ability to organize meetings and events. Ability to handle work quickly and accurately under time constraints is required.
    • In-depth knowledge of UNICEF processes which underpin UNICEF programmes and UNICEF administrative regulations e.g. travel and contracting is required.
    • Good analytical skills.

      Language

    • Fluency in English and the local working language in Malawi is required
