Organizational Context

The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is ministry of the Society of Jesus, incorporated as an international non-governmental organisation with a mission to accompany, serve, and advocate for the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people. The organisation was founded in November 1980 and now has a presence in over 56 countries. JRS undertakes services at national and regional levels with the support and guidance of an international office (IO) in Rome. The style of JRS service is human and spiritual, working in situations of greatest need, seeking the long-term well-being of refugees and displaced people while not neglecting their immediate or urgent needs.
The main services provided are in the field of education, reconciliation, livelihood activities and psychosocial support. Currently, more than 724,000 individuals are direct beneficiaries of JRS projects.

Operational Context

JRS’ 35th anniversary in 2015 offered an opportunity to assess the current and future context of the refugee crisis.

In light of the continuously evolving landscape, JRS International Office has embarked in a major Institutional Strengthening Process, a programme encompassing several global projects. One of these, the Strengthening Country Operations (SCO) Project, prepares Country Offices to become fully operational. In order to achieve this target, the HR Department has identified several strategic recommendations, including the review of compensation packages, to be implemented.  

The Junior HR Consultant support and will work in close collaboration with the HR Specialist to coordinate data gathering, collection and review and propose implementation and communication plans to Regional and Country Directors.

 

Key Responsibilities

Under the supervision and in close collaboration with the HR Specialist in the International Office, the Junior HR Consultant will:

  • Support the overall production, design and implementation of new compensation packages for the field offices
  • Coordinate activities and communications with external consultants on compensation and benefits review
  • Collect, revise and collate data received from JRS Country Offices
  • Support Country Directors and/or Country HR Officers in reviewing and realigning Job Descriptions, carrying out job classification exercises and realignment of pay scales
  • Prepare training materials and presentations for different IO stakeholders
  • Support the HR Department with other tasks as required

 

Qualification and Competencies

  • University Degree in Human Resources Management or related fields
  • From one (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience in a similar capacity
  • Knowledge and/or experience with compensation packages review and policies, job matching and classification
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, ability to persuasively articulate messages to external audiences
  • Strong analytical and planning skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multi-cultural, international, professional and to build efficient relations with stakeholders throughout the process

 

Desirable:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • Working knowledge of other languages (French, Spanish, Italian)
  • Knowledge of / or previous work with the Birches Group
  • Knowledge of and previous work on compensation and benefits policies
  • Previous work experience with faith-based organizations, NGOs, International Organizations

 

Travel:

  •  The position may require occasional travel to JRS country offices.

Terms and Conditions

Please note that this position is only open to candidates who possess EU citizenship or other legal authorization to work in the European Union.

Contract is for one year, with an initial probationary period of 3 months.  The JRS remuneration policy is aligned with the JRS ethos to offer effective and professional services and at the same time express solidarity with the people served. Benefits and compensation package will be discussed with short-listed candidates.
