Eligibility criteria
Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.
Description of taskUnder the supervision of the Education in Emergency Specialist, the National UN Volunteer recruited for this position will be responsible for supporting implementation, monitoring and reporting on UNICEF facilitated Education in Emergency (EiE) response.
The volunteer will support EiE response as follows:
- Participate in development of specific goals, objectives, strategies and implementation plans for EIE programmes/projects.
- Supports development of UNICEF partnership agreement (PCAs) with EIE implementing partners.
- Support development of effective information and reporting systems to monitor and evaluate impact of EiE programmes, activities, and achievement of targeted in humanitarian crises.
- Ensure distribution of EiE supplies as per plan.
- Support preparation and timely submission of timely situation/progress/status reports for management, donors, budget reviews, programme monitoring and evaluation, annual reports.
- Participate in programme meetings including programme development and planning to provide technical and operational information, advice and support.
- As needed, undertake missions (field visits) to support evaluation of programme effectiveness at national and decentralized levels, identify challenges and assist in instituting remedial measures.
- Help EiE team build and sustain effective close working partnerships with relevant government counterparts, implementing partners and government counterparts to construct knowledge and reinforce cooperation to achieve sustainable and broad results on EiE
Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:
- Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark IVD);
- Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
- Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
- Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
- Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
- Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
- A university’s degree in education, information systems, data science, statistics, or equivalent practical experience.
- A minimum two years of relevant professional work experience in information and data management, preferably in education-related data management.
- Experience with UN and/or NGO, including information management, or UN Education programmes.
- Understanding key technical issues in the education sector of Afghanistan.
- Mastery of MS Excel (e.g. pivot tables and functions) or similar software; proven technical expertise on data management, capture and storage, analysis of diverse datasets, presentation of information in understandable tables, charts, graphs and reports; proven skills using GIS and map-making packages, and web design and software developmentA
