Founded by the Buddhist monk Matthieu Ricard in 2000, Karuna-Shechen implements projects for disadvantaged populations of India, Nepal and Tibet in the sectors of Education (schools, literacy, training), Health (hospitals and mobile clinics, hygiene and sanitation), Environment (solar panels, biological gardens) and Community Development (women empowerment, preservation of local culture). Every year, more than 380,000 people benefit from our help.

A team of 160 employees and about 50 volunteers support the association on a daily basis, most of the employees and volunteers are on the ground in Kathmandu (Nepal) and Bihar/Jharkhand (India), and the rest are located in France, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and Hong Kong. The HQ is based in Paris. Karuna-Shechen collects more than $3 million in donations worldwide every year. In 2020, the organisation would like to develop programs in France for the underprivileged. General context : Bihar and Jharkhand are the two poorest states of India. Most of these regions are either flood-prone or suffer from calamities. Identically, closed until 1950, Nepal is today one of the poorest countries in the world with an HDI ranked 157th out of 177. Which is why Karuna-Shechen has been implementing development programs in these two respective countries since 2000.

MISSION : The Program Coordinator coordinates the identification of the needs, the elaboration of the strategy and the improvement of our expertise in close collaboration with the Country Directors in India and Nepal. He/she is an additional link between HQ and India and Nepal and ensures compliance with the grant agreements and related applicable laws. His mission is not to supervise the local teams. He/she is supervised by the Executive Direction of Karuna-Shechen International and will report to the Field Circle. He/she retains a degree of independence and expresses his/her opinions independently while evaluating the programs. The program coordinator shall aim at reaching mutual consensus with the respective Country Directors.

External relations : In collaboration with the Country Directors, the Program Coordinator can meet with donors, humanitarian actors, local authorities as well as meetings when requested by the Executive Direction or the Country Directors.

Administrative : Program Coordinator ensures the proper management of finances on the bases and gives his opinion on the budgets presented by the Country Directors.

PROFILE : Project management university degree, minimum 10 years of field experience in the non-profit sector, as a Program Manager (preferably as a Director). Has worked at grassroots level.

REQUIRED SKILLS : Excellent interpersonal skills, preferably a good knowledge of India and Nepal, experience in project development, ability to adapt to any change of environment, ability to communicate concise and organised information. Excellent management skills, ability to handle effectively multiple tasks without compromising quality, team spirit and positive working relationships. Fluent in English, ability to work in French is a plus, photo/video skills is a plus.

CONTRACT : 3 years fixed term contract or permanent contract, to be determined according to the profile.

LOCALISATION AND WORKING PERIOD : This job can be either part-time or full-time depending on the applicant’s availability and area of residence. A presence of at least 6 months will be required in India and Nepal, and one or two months in our HQ in Paris. It will be discussed with the candidate how to organize this working period through the year.

STARTING DATE : As soon as possible.

COMPENSATION : To be determined according to the profile.
