Role overview

IRCis looking for a Designer with illustration, prototyping and user centered design experience.

The project’s objectives are to create – with user and facilitator feedback – an intervention to support caregiver’s psychosocial well-being and promote early childhood development. The entry point for the intervention will be health clinics and close collaboration with health colleagues and designing for scalability will be critical to project success.

The role is approximately 4 weeks, part-time consulting contract in IRC’s Cox’s Bazaar office with some travel to refugee camps and host communities. This is a limited contract with opportunities for further collaboration with the IRC.

Detailed expectations

We are looking for an experienced designer to lead these early prototyping activities. This is where you come in! If you have design research experience, prototyping experience, an interest in health or early education programs, and creative problem solving skills, you can help design the prototypes for our project.

The Designer will work in close collaboration with our IRC Education team in Cox’s Bazaar and with close collaboration with Education Coordinator and Technical Manager-ECD based in Bangladesh and ECD Senior Specialist from the Education Technical Unit.

The Contractor would provide to IRC the following services (“Scope of Work”):

  • Lead the creation of content prototypes with guidance including modifying prototypes as needed.
  • Conduct direct observations of community facilitators and caregivers’ engagement with the prototypes.
  • Contribute to designing the methods to collect user feedback needed for the project. Constantly refine methods based on findings and stakeholders.
  • Document and synthesize insights from field visits and prototyping activities
  • Synthesizing prototyping activities and results into actionable recommendations and concepts.
  • Contribute to documenting the insights and findings onto a wide variety of materials such as personas, storyboards, user journeys, scenarios, flowcharts, prototypes, service design blueprint, strategies for adoption etc. and more.
  • Produce tangible physical and digital prototypes and conduct design research and move quickly from insights to prototypes with various levels of fidelity.
  • Work closely with the IRC Bangladesh and TU team to prepare a final presentation of prototyping results and recommendations for piloting phase
  • Produce/recommend# and types of audio/visual contents for pilot phase
  • Recommend model/s for pilot phase with detail implementation plan (DIP) in close consultation with IRC Bangladesh and TU team

Qualifications

Job and skills requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 3+ years of experience in design research and human centred design.
  • Excellent English language is a must.
  • Basic graphic design skills and proficiency with the Adobe suite and digital prototyping software.
  • Experience with humanitarian projects and/or education projects is not required, but extremely valuable.
  • Excellent design research skills and experience running a variety of design activities such as: qualitative data collections, methodical observations, prototyping, co-creation sessions, design workshops, etc.
  • Incredible team collaboration skills; comfort working beneficiaries, teachers, and communications staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to communicate with colleagues in person and through digital means, on all levels in a distributed, multicultural professional environment.
  • Preference given to those already based in Cox’s Bazar.

Required experience

 Previous experience (3+years) working with education technical specialists on human centered design projects in challenging environments is a must.
Experience in prototyping is required. Candidates without relevant experience or portfolio showing experience will not be contacted.
