IFES is recruiting an Electoral Conflict Management Specialist for an anticipated project in Uganda focusing on promoting a peaceful, credible election process. The Electoral Conflict Management Specialist will assist in implementing conflict management activities to facilitate a rights-respecting environment. The position is contingent upon funding. This position is based in Kampala, Uganda. Ugandan nationals are encouraged to apply.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support civil society monitoring of electoral operations to promote electoral integrity;
  • Assist civil society to conduct electoral violence prevention and mitigation activities;
  • Support Community dialogues between citizens and key electoral stakeholders;
  • Develop violence prevention early warning mechanisms;
  • Facilitate issue-based debates and dialogue on political issues in the lead up to elections;
  • Assist civil society organizations to engage in advocacy and civic and voter education;
  • Train CSOs and other electoral stakeholders on human rights monitoring, avenues for redress, and advocacy.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in conflict resolution, political science or related field required. Masters preferred.
  • At least 8 years of conflict resolution experience required including electoral conflict mitigation.
  • Knowledge of political dynamics and conflict dynamics in Uganda.
  • Experience in East Africa strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electoral violence and the electoral cycle.
  • Ability to manage and develop local relationships.
  • Experience implementing donor-funded projects.
  • Experience delivering conflict resolution trainings required.
  • General project management skills, including project reporting.
  • Good presentation skills.
  • The ability to remain highly organized while handling multiple tasks under tight deadlines;
  • The ability to complete tasks with limited supervision;
  • Excellent reporting and document handling skills;
  • Excellent communication skills in order to be able to work with IFES program and administrative staff to identify and resolve issues;
  • Willingness to adhere to all principles of confidentiality;Must value operating in a collaborative and cooperative environment;
  • Ability to show initiative, good judgment, and resourcefulness;
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues and address inclusion matters with integrity.

Language Skills: Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in local language is a plus.

TRAVEL:** Travel within Uganda may be required.
