Location: International with flexible home working

Hours: Full time 35 hours per week
Salary: GBP 32,500 pa (accommodation and subsistence allowance provided when overseas)

About the role
In times of crisis, the British Red Cross deploy Global Surge team members internationally to work within the wider Red Cross, Red Crescent (RCRC)Movement to ensure that vulnerable people are better able to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies, disasters and conflicts.

An exciting opportunity is now available for an experienced Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) specialist to join our Global Surge Team to provide technical and managerial oversight in the implementation of livelihood strategies to increase community resilience.

Working directly within affected communities, in some of the most disaster-prone areas, the successful candidate will support Red Cross and Red Crescent staff and volunteers to make a meaningful, long term, sustainable difference to assist the most vulnerable people to build their capacity and increase their resilience to future risks.

The ideal candidate will bring experience and understanding of food security and livelihoods programming approaches that will improve the socio-economic circumstances of vulnerable people. They will have the ability to work in complex multi-cultural environments and a drive to achieve sustainable change in times of crisis.

Global Surge team members are deployed internationally for a maximum of 3 months per mission, and up to a maximum of 9 months overseas per year, to enable the British Red Cross to provide immediate technical expertise to strengthen the capacity of the Red Cross to respond the needs of some of the world's most vulnerable people.

The Global Surge Food Security and Livelihoods position is offered as a permanent contract with British Red Cross.

About the team
The Global Surge Team plays a crucial role in the Emergencies, Surge and Technical Advisory Team that sits within the International Directorate of the British Red Cross. The team deploys a wide range of experienced programme management and technical experts, supported and managed by experienced humanitarian staff in our UK headquarters in London.

About the person
Global Surge team members need to be prepared to deploy at short notice into countries experiencing natural disasters and other crisis events. Strong technical skills, an ability to operate with limited resources and a willingness to work in a complex multi-cultural environment with a variety of stakeholders are essential.

You will need to have a high level of technical knowledge in the Food Security and Livelihoods field and be able to demonstrate experience of implementing FSL programmes in the humanitarian context.
