Organizational Setting

The Director General's Office (DGO) provides leadership and coordination for all IAEA activities at the executive level for meeting Member States' needs, and achieving a one-house approach and a results-based management.


The Office for Public Information and Communication provides objective, accurate and timely information about the IAEA and nuclear developments that fosters public understanding of the IAEA's global roles. It also provides advice to the Director General on relations with the media and organizes press briefings. The Office coordinates the communication activities for the rest of the house and assists in the media aspects of major IAEA events and conferences.


 

The Web, Digital Media and Public Information Materials Section has corporate responsibility for the editorial management, creation and development of information products with a particular focus on the web, digital media, internal communications and cross-departmental promotional material.


Main Purpose

Reporting directly to the Section Head, the Associate Information Officer (Editor/Social Media)) assists in researching, writing and editing information products for the IAEA’s web site and social media channels, and contributes to the development of content for Agency campaigns. The incumbent coordinates with technical experts to ensure that relevant information is included in the content developed. The Associate Information Officer (Editor/Social Media) keeps tracks of trends and usage of social media channels by analyzing social metrics and makes recommendations on strategy and approaches based on these metrics. He/she elaborates and updates the IAEA's social media policies, standards and guidelines.


Role

The Associate Information Officer (Editor/Social Media) is (1) a specialist, providing ideas and recommendations on how to increase the presence of the IAEA on the web and on social media, as well as in thematic campaigns and positioning content on the most appropriate channels; (2) a substantive contributor, providing editorial and production support to enable the efficient and accurate publishing of outreach information on the IAEA's programs and activities; (3) an editor assuring that public information content is accurate and complies with the editorial style guide.


Functions / Key Results Expected

  • Research and draft the social media strategy, policies and guidelines of the Agency.
  • Maintain the IAEA corporate social media channels, drafting and publishing posts on a regular basis and produce and develop stories, features and other outreach materials for use in social media, the web site and print.
  • Draft web and magazine stories and content for thematic campaigns in easy to understand language and style for non-specialist audience.
  • Support Head of Section in editing and copy-editing public information content and outreach material.
  • Serve as a sub-editor to assigned IAEA publications as well as to designated pages/sections of the IAEA's website.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

Bachelor's Degree - University degree in journalism or related field.

Minimum of two years' experience in journalism, public affairs or related field.
Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.


Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $47895 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 20164, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave, pension plan and health insurance
