The United Nations Department of Operational Support, Office of Information and Communications Technology, Operational Support Division (UN DOS-OICT-OSD) is responsible for the delivery of applications that satisfy the requirements of the DOS.

This incumbent would report to the OICT-DOS-Service Operations Service (SOS), located in Valencia. The SOS is in charge of coordinating the hosting in the Enterprise Data Centres of enterprise applications, such as Umoja, iNeed, UniteDocs, etc. It interacts both with application owners for the fulfillment of their requirements, and with the UNGSC for the provision of infr4astructure to this effect.

The incumbent will be part of a team of professionals that have combined decade’s long experience in the UN field missions.

This is a position in UNOPS for supporting projects carried out for or in the United Nations Secretariat. The incumbent of this position will be a personnel of UNOPS under its full responsibility.

Functional Responsibilities

The incumbent will be responsible for following duties:
  • With a focus on Umoja, the UN Secretariat ERP system, and the existing Service Level Agreement with the UNGSC, as well as existing underpinning contracts with infrastructure and system administration providers, identify, design and implement administration and control processes for the adequate provision of infrastructure services for Umoja within the Enterprise Data Centres.
  • Create requests for service, reports, and tools to measure adequate service provision, uninterrupted service availability, compliance with existing agreements.
  • Respond to any audit observations and recommendations.
  • Measure progress toward implementing process improvements.
  • Develop models for operational tasks that are coordinated across different groups and IT skill/levels in order to improve productivity, service quality and control.
  • Contribute to enhance the monitoring of Umoja components, adherence to KPIs and related to the existing SLAs.

Monitoring and Progress Controls

  • ICT's service management processes implemented must be able to adapt to changes in expectations, architecture, technology and tools.
  • ICT service management processes should be evaluated in terms of maturity and continuous service improvement as part of the service lifecycle.
  • Operations of Umoja must achieve the highest level of availability given the application’s criticality.
  • Reports to Senior Management and Business Owners must be produced promptly.
  • Demand must be addressed in a timely manner, and Capacity management must be prepared well in advance to ensure no lack of resources for the correct functioning of Umoja.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or Computer Science or related areas is required. 
  • ITIL certification is required.
  • Knowledge of the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) is desired.

Experience
  • Seven years of experience in large system administration and Data Centre Operations is required.
  • Familiarity with service models such as IT infrastructure Library (ITIL) to map out how different areas of operational expertise should work together to deliver high/quality services is required.
  • General knowledge of Asset management systems, Service Level Agreements, Release, Demand, Capacity and Change Management processes, as well as IT Quality models is an asset.

Language
  • Proficiency in oral and written English is a requirement;
  • Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.
