Transnational Strategies programme are now seeking a Deputy Programme Director- Head of Gender Sexuality and Identity (GSI) to lead in the planning, coordination, development and implementation of Amnesty International’s work on Gender Sexuality and Identity issues. This position is advertised as an 18-month contract due to organisational policy however the post is permanent in the Transnational Strategies (GSI Unit) structure.

ABOUT THE ROLE
As Deputy Programme Director - Head of GSI, you will act as the movement's principal policy adviser on Gender Sexuality and Identity issues, developing AI’s policies and research, advocacy, and membership strategies on these issues. You will lead and coordinate the planning, development and implementation of AI's strategy for the protection and promotion worldwide of Gender Sexuality and Identity issues and to ensure that AI takes an effective and coordinated approach on these issues.

You will provide expert advice and will supervise and coordinate the team’s provision of expert advice, including campaigning advice, on Gender Sexuality and Identity issues to AI staff, sections/structures, and other AI membership bodies. You will have the opportunity to develop and manage a programme of quality research, ensuring the quality of AI’s research output through training, advice and review of documents produced by other IS staff and the movement relating to Gender Sexuality and Identity issues.

Representing AI to governments, international financial institutions, other intergovernmental bodies and civil society representatives, in coordination with relevant staff in ILOP and other programmes;you will act as AI’s expert spokesperson on Gender Sexuality and Identity issues to raise public awareness of AI and its calls for action, build support for concrete recommendations for change, and help position AI at the forefront of the human rights movement.

ABOUT YOU
With significant expert knowledge -- demonstrated through academic qualifications or the equivalent and substantial professional experience - on gender, sexuality and other aspects of identity, you will bring with you to the role extensive professional experience involving the intersectional analysis of aspects of identity, including ways that human rights abuses target these multifaceted identities.

You will have strong analytical, credibility and relationship building skills and demonstrable experience in conducting and managing research including field research, for advocacy purposes. An experienced manager of people and resources, you will also be familiar with developing and managing advocacy and campaigns; you will have a proven ability to formulate coherent policies based on a comprehensive understanding of relevant human rights issues.
