If you have experience and a passion for bringing two worlds together to achieve change - the development/humanitarian sphere and the private sector – then this job and team are for you. We look at bridging this critical divide to maximize fundraising and partnerships and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, Hope

The fundamental mission of UNICEF is to promote the rights of every child, everywhere. There is growing evidence that investing in the health, education and protection of a society’s most disadvantaged citizens and addressing inequity, will not only give all children the opportunity to fulfill their potential but will also lead to sustained growth and stability of countries.  This accelerates progress towards realizing the human rights of all children, which is the universal mandate of UNICEF, as outlined by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, while also supporting the equitable development of nations and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

UNICEF Private Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP) Division is based in Geneva with the remit to serve the global organization, including the network of 33 UNICEF National Committees, with leadership and technical support to achieve our goals of engaging with the Private Sector.  The Programme Coordination Unit within PFP enables colleagues across the organization to leverage game changing partnerships with UNICEF’s private sector partners using Impact Content and by strategically connecting the “field” with the private sector.

Purpose of the Job:

The purpose of this job is to support Pillar 1 of the team strategy, which is “Impact Content”.   Impact Content is a recent term used by the PFP Programme Coordination team to define a new set of investment cases and “Accelerator Propositions” as well as the corresponding quality donor reporting.  This content brings together experts across UNICEF programmes and partnership and describes new ways that Business, Philanthropists, Foundations, and Investors can create sustainable impact through partnership with UNICEF.

How can you make a difference?

Main Tasks:

The main tasks are to develop key areas of Impact Content with engagement across the organization and with the private sector.  This includes management of several staff and consultants.

1. Management of Content Development – Process and Delivery (estimated 45% of time)

Oversight and management of all programmatic/private sector Content ranging from fundraising investment cases, bespoke proposals and packaging, and quality donor reporting across UNICEF’s programmatic areas to complex Accelerator Propositions – UNICEF’s biggest ideas for change with the private sector.  This process includes management of several staff and consultants who are creating the content, extensive engagement with stakeholders across the organization on key programmatic areas and fundraising needs, direct contributions to the content, direct contributions and oversight of the Quality Reporting initiative, and review and approvals of content.

2. Lead the global Private Sector engagement elements of Accelerator Propositions (estimated 50% of staff time)

Beyond the management of the global Accelerator content development, this function will facilitate the creative and convergent thinking of private sector with programmes, leading to maximizing fundraising and partnerships.  Building on and further optimizing the Accelerator process, this function will engage private sector colleagues on high priority programmatic areas (Climate Change, Quality Learning, Health System Strengthening, and more).

3. Support to connect Content with Capacity building (estimated 5% of staff time)

Utilizing the content and overall high engagement levels, provide support to the team’s change strategies and capacity building initiatives.  This includes supporting key sessions during the Programme Masterclass and Programme network meetings and connecting content with the management of Field visits.  This ensures that we are maximizing synergies in the team and for sustainable change across the organization.

DELIVERABLES:

  1. Oversight to the production and dissemination of a set of UNICEF fundraising investment cases, bespoke proposals, and related donor reports.
  2. Engagement leading to the consolidation “private sector insights” for each key topic.
  3. Contributions to the Accelerator methodology to ensure UNICEF achieves maximum convergence between programme and private sector.
  4. Significant contributions to new and validated “ways to engage the private sector” for each area.
  5. Successful engagement of colleagues and facilitation of Accelerator team meetings and requisite follow-up.
  6. Final Accelerator Proposition content and packaging of that content to meet the private sector's needs.
  7. Facilitation of the initial period of customizing these Propositions for the private sector, leading to partnership development and/or co-creation.
  8. Support to key Reporting strategy actions and capacity building, to drive synergy between Accelerator Propositions and major organizational initiatives.
