1.    Organizational Context

 

  1. Organizational Setting

     

    The position is located in the Internet Dispute Resolution Section of the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center, which is a resource center for the resolution of intellectual property disputes between private parties through methods other than court litigation.  The Center's areas of activity are covered by the IP Disputes and External Relations Division (comprising the IP Disputes Section, the Information and External Relations Section, and the Business Development Unit), and by the Internet Dispute Resolution Section.

    The Internet Dispute Resolution Section is responsible for the administration of domain name disputes filed with the Center under different policies and various related aspects of the Internet Domain Name System (DNS), as well as selected policy developments as they relate to Internet dispute resolution.

     

  2. Purpose Statement

     

    The incumbent is required to perform a variety of customary and fast-paced/high-volume administrative transactions and office support functions contributing to the smooth and efficient running of the Section.  The incumbent interacts with a wide range of colleagues within the Section and with immediate clients within the Organization to provide routine administrative and office support services and with external case filing parties.

     

  3. Reporting Lines

     

    The incumbent works under the supervision of the Head of the Internet Dispute Resolution Section.

     

     

2.     Duties and Responsibilities

 

The incumbent will perform the following principal duties\:

 

    1. support the Center's administration of Internet domain name disputes, in particular\:

       

      (i)  in consultation with legal supervisors, assess and register into the Center's case management database cases filed with the Center, and perform data verification on such filings and other internal and external actions in relation thereto;


      (ii)  prepare case files for the Center's case managers;

      (iii) organize all case communications received by electronic or paper means;

      (iv) format under legal guidance and posting of panel decisions on the WIPO website;

      (v)  reply to and manage telephone queries received in relation to the Center's domain name dispute resolution services and cases administered by the Center;

      (vi) liaise with the Income Section at the WIPO Finance Department concerning payment of case fees;

      (vii) produce database profiles of candidates for case appointment.

       

      b.  process correspondence, notes, reports, documents and publications related to activities of the Center;

       

      c.  deal with or forward inquiries;

       

      d.  support the production of materials for the organization and conduct of conferences and training programs;

       

      e.  initiate and follow up on administrative tasks in the Organization's computerized systems (inter alia financial, travel, procurement, human resources), including preparing cost estimates;

       

      f.   perform other related duties as required.

       

       

3.     Requirements

 

Education

Essential

Completed secondary education or equivalent qualifications.

 

Experience

Essential

At least five years of relevant administrative experience.

 

Desirable

International scope of relevant experience.

 

Language

Essential

Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English.

 

Desirable

Good knowledge of another UN official language and/or language relevant to WIPO domain name proceedings (see www.wipo.int/amc/en/domains).

5.      Information


Mobility\:  WIPO staff members are international civil servants subject to the authority of the Director General and may be assigned to any activities of the Organization. Accordingly, the selected candidate may be required to move from time to time to new functions.

 

Annual salary (Net of tax)\:  75,234 CHF

Additional Information

 

Initial period of one year, renewable, subject to satisfactory performance.  No fixed-term appointment or any extension hereof shall carry with it any expectancy of, nor imply any right to, (further) extensions or conversion to a permanent appointment.

 

Dependency allowances

7,939 CHF per year for dependent spouse;  6,398 CHF per year for each dependent child.

 

Language allowance

Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish\: 4,788 CHF per year for two of these languages, and 3,192 CHF per year for one of them.  The allowance is not payable for the mother tongue or the main working language of the staff member.  The grant of this allowance is subject to examination.

 

General Service posts are generally subject to local recruitment.  Staff in the General Service category is recruited in the host country or within reasonable commuting distance of the Headquarters.
