Job Description
The Grants Officer will assist the Grants Manager and Deputy Director of Programs in overall management of the country program’s grants. The Grants Officer will liaise directly with the technical teams and field staff on reporting, budget management, donor compliance, and coordinating proposal development. The Grants Officer will report directly to the Grants Manager, with a close working relationship with the technical coordinators as well as the finance and operations teams. The role is based in Freetown with regular field site trips for compliance monitoring and capacity building. Through this role, the Grants Officer will have broad exposure to how a large humanitarian organization functions within a post-conflict and post-epidemic context. Additionally the role will offer opportunities to engage with donors and coordinating entities to gain a broader understanding of how foreign assistance is realized into recovery and development programming at a country-wide scale. Main Responsibilities: Grants Management & Compliance New business development Coordinate development of concept notes, proposals, budgets, and budget narratives for new development opportunities and liaise with NY grants units, IRC UK to ensure proposals meet internal standards, apply IRC Program Framework principles and are donor compliant; Participate in meetings with in-country donor representatives to discuss ongoing and future programs and assist technical coordinators in donor communication as required. Liaise between donors and the IRC as required for existing grants; Identify and share new funding opportunities with technical coordinators according to immediate and long term fund-raising plans. Capacity building Communication and Information management Develop briefing papers and support development of external communication tools; Prepare and update country program and specific sectoral information sheets, as needed. Provide relevant communications information as necessary for dissemination to donors, regional office, and HQ. Other Perform other relevant duties as assigned; Adherence to IRC policies and procedures is required.
Qualifications
Experience or readiness to work in a resource limited context ; Flexibility to adapt to changing requirements; Demonstrated experience working with multiple partners and stakeholders; Strong team working skills; Excellent oral and written communications skills and demonstrated ability to produce and edit reports and proposals under deadline pressure; Fluent in spoken and written English; Demonstrable understanding of project planning and management cycles; Experience working in a multi-cultural setting preferred; High-level of knowledge and practice with Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.; and A sense of humor WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The IRC and IRC workers must adhere to the values and principles outlined in IRC Way - Standards for Professional Conduct.
