(a) increase understanding of relevant issues at the international level by involving them directly in the work of the Office and the application of ILO principles, programmes and strategies;

(b) gain practical experience with the ILO directly related to their field of study.

The internship programme is not intended to lead to a career in the ILO. There should be no expectation of further employment at the end of the internship.

Department

The Department of Partnerships and Field Support (PARDEV) establishes and develops strategic partnerships in close interaction with other portfolios and the regions. It is responsible for developing the ILO’s development cooperation strategy and leads consultations and negotiations with development cooperation partners. It is responsible for mobilizing voluntary contributions for the ILO’s programme as well as coordinating development and financial reporting to donors. Finally, in close collaboration with other portfolios, PARDEV facilitates the streamlining of work processes and procedures and provides assistance to enhance service delivery in the field. PARDEV comprises three units: The Development Partner and Donor Relations Unit (DPRU), the Development Cooperation Support Unit (DCSU), and the Emerging and Special Partnerships Unit (ESPU).

 

The current internship is located in DPRU. DPRU is responsible coordinating the mobilization of voluntary resources for ILO’s development cooperation programme, including through the Regular Budget Supplementary Account (RBSA). The unit is charged with establishing, developing and maintaining relations with partners of the ILO, including government donors, UN agencies and other development partners such as the European Union, International Financial Institutions and Development Banks, as well as the private sector. DPRU monitors implementation of the ILO’s development cooperation programme, ensuring full compliance with contractual obligations. DPRU further implements specific resource mobilisation strategies for ILO priority programmes and supports the development of new funding mechanisms.

Learning area

As an intern in DPRU, you will be exposed to ILO’s development cooperation programmes, development partners, technical units and field offices. You would be gaining experience in working with specialists who are involved in development partner relations with selected governments and associated portfolio management; assisting in the preparation of a fact sheets on ILO cooperation and liaising with technical units, country offices and communications department and supporting the organization of development partner meetings and drafting reports.

Interns should expect to devote 10 per cent to 20 per cent of their time to administrative tasks.

Required profile
Education

Master's in Business Administration, Economics, Law, Politics or International Relations. The candidate should be enrolled in their final year of graduate degree programme or should have completed such a programme no longer than 1 years ago

Experience

Any relevant work experience and knowledge of  IT would be an advantage.

Languages

Working (both oral and written) knowledge of at least one of the ILO’s official languages (English, French, Spanish). Working knowledge of Arabic would be an asset.

 

Competencies

Adaptable to an international, multicultural and multilingual environment, good communication skills and be able to work in a team. Proficient in the use of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Selection process:

 

Following a first screening by the Human Resources Development Department (HRD), hiring departments will short-list applicants. You will be directly contacted should an internship opportunity match your profile. If you have not been contacted by any department within six months after your application, you can consider that you have not been selected by any department for this roster. If still eligible, you may apply to the next roster. 

 

If shortlisted, you may be contacted by the hiring department for a written test and/or interview. The ILO may use communication technologies such as Skype, Video or teleconference, e-mail, etc for the assessment and evaluation of candidates.

 

Stipend:

 

As an intern in Geneva, you will receive a stipend of 2245 CHF per month from the ILO, unless you receive funding through another institution (for example your university or a foundation). If you receive partial funding, ILO will cover the difference to ensure you receive 2245 CHF per month. Your travel to Geneva will be at your own expense.

 

Insurance:

 

Please note that the ILO does not take responsibility for any costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship. You will be responsible for your own insurance coverage for illness and accidents for the duration of the internship at the duty station (whether Geneva or the field).
