(a) increase understanding of relevant issues at the international level by involving them directly in the work of the Office and the application of ILO principles, programmes and strategies;

(b) gain practical experience with the ILO directly related to their field of study.

The internship programme is not intended to lead to a career in the ILO. There should be no expectation of further employment at the end of the internship.

Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean / DWT/CO - Lima Office in Lima PERU

Learning area

As an intern in the Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean / DWT/CO - Lima Office, you would be exposed to a different range of areas such as:

 

- Global development frameworks, notably the Agenda 2030.

- Youth employment as a multidimensional area related to the ILO’s Decent Work Agenda.

- Social Protection and Occupational Safety and Health.

- Application of ILO International Labour Conventions.

- Conditions of Work and Equality.

- Workers’ activities and Employers’ activities in the ILO following the Decent Work Agenda.

- Statistic information about Labour Market Policies in Employment Services.

In general, as an intern, you will have the possibility to have first-hand experience in supporting the technical assistance provided to the ILO Constituents. You will also learn by participating in knowledge development and dissemination and the organisation and delivery of capacity building activities, which may include information gathering, data analysis, the organisation of working sessions, preparation of training material and report writing, among other tasks.

 

- Support research activities and contribute to multiple reports or activities; 
- Construct and maintain classified information or databases and their sources for the empirical work conducted in the Office;
- Analyse global and national policy choices and their impact on labour market outcomes;
- Provide literature reviews and background research on relevant topics;
- Prepare and deliver presentations of work achievements to internal or external audiences;

- Provide support to the Specialist through literature surveys, web researches and data collection on labour policies and practices;
- Assist in drafting, formatting and editing policy briefs, toolkits, guides/manuals, hand-outs, brochures, and reports;
- Assist in capacity-building activities;
- Contribute in the preparation of technical assistance initiatives;
- Assisting and  organizing workshops, public lectures and other labour and policy dialogue events.

 

Interns should expect to devote 10% to 20% of their time to administrative tasks.

Required profile
Education

Advanced university degree in social sciences, economics, or public administration. The candidate should be enrolled in their final year of graduate (Master degree or above) degree programme or should have completed such a programme no longer than 12 months prior to this application

Experience

Relevant academic or professional experience in research, employments topics and/or communications would be an asset.

Languages

Working (both oral and written) knowledge of Spanish. Knowledge of English would be an advantage.

Competencies

Adaptable to an international, multicultural and multilingual environment, good communication skills and be able to work in a team.
Strong analytical capabilities with the ability to quickly comprehend new subject matters and their policy implications. Ability to carry out assignments in accordance with instructions and guidelines, ability to use analytical tools and qualitative and quantitative techniques, ability to conceptualize, plan, coordinate and conduct straightforward research work, ability to draft press releases, discussion papers, reports, good computer skills.

Stipend

$. 345 dollars to be paid monthly in local currency.

Selection process:

 

Following a first screening by the Human Resources Development Department (HRD), field offices will short-list applicants. You will be directly contacted should an internship opportunity match your profile. If you have not been contacted by any department or field office within six months after your application, you can consider that you have not been selected for this roster. If still eligible, you may apply to the next roster. 

 

If shortlisted, you may be contacted by the field office for a written test and/or interview. The ILO may use communication technologies such as Skype, Video or teleconference, e-mail, etc for the assessment and evaluation of candidates.

 

Stipend:

 

As an intern in the field, you will receive a monthly stipend from the ILO based on the cost of living in the area of the duty station, unless you receive funding through another institution (for example your university or a foundation). If you receive partial funding, ILO will cover the difference to ensure you receive the appropriate stipend per month. Your travel to the duty station will be at your own expense.

 

Insurance:

 

Please note that the ILO does not take responsibility for any costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship. You will be responsible for your own insurance coverage for illness and accidents for the duration of the internship at the duty station (whether Geneva or the field).
