PSP Communications Intern

Duties and Responsibilities:

Support the drafting and editing of presentations, proposals, website content, press releases, radio ads, fliers, posters, talking points, key messages, Q&As and FAQs as necessary.
Assist with creating social media plans including curating content and drafting messaging.
Assist with event organizing including any administrative tasks required.
Support transcribing of B-roll film for video editing.
Conduct research on various refugee issues and UNHCR interventions and keep abreast of refugee operations across Africa.
Support with brainstorming, conceptualizing and executing PSP Africa campaigns and appeals.
Help create an organized media library for all photos, videos, and assets produced by PSP Africa.
Fulfil any other duties and assignments assigned from time to time.

Eligibility:

Be a recent graduate (within one year of completion of their studies) or current & have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a relevant field, for example Communication and Media Studies, Refugee and Forced Displacement Studies, Migration Studies, International Studies and Social Sciences.

Qualifications:

Be a strong writer and fluent in English, with advanced drafting and editing skills.
Have strong research and organizational skills.
Have advanced experience using the Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Publisher and Power point).
Have a strong understanding of social media.
Have design and document formatting skills. Experience using Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign is desirable
Show a genuine desire to learn and adapt.
Have good interpersonal skills and be a keen team player. Please also note that English is essential for this Job Opening. Status of the intern and insurance

Interns are neither staff members under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations, nor officials within the meaning of the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations of 13 February 1946, as interns are not remunerated for their work. As of 1 June 2018, interns that do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive a monthly Food and Local Transportation Allowance equivalent.

Interns may not represent UNHCR in any official capacity.

Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or his/her sponsoring institution. However, UNHCR will help with the visa application if applicable and advise accordingly.

Interns are not subject to UN security evacuation procedures but may be assisted to leave the country when possible and to the extent feasible.

Interns are fully responsible for arranging medical insurance covering their full internship period. Interns will be requested to show proof of valid medical (and life/accident) insurance for the duty station. It must include adequate coverage in the event of an injury or illness during the internship. UNHCR accepts no responsibility for the medical and life insurance of the intern or costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship. As interns are not covered under any insurance, they should not travel to hazardous locations in the course of their internship with UNHCR.

Interns will not engage in any activity that is incompatible with the aims and objectives of UNHCR.

Interns will maintain confidentiality of all unpublished information made known to them during the internship and will not publish any reports on the basis of information obtained during the period without prior written permission of UNHCR.

The internship will be placed with UNHCRs Private Sector Partnerships Africa team, which sits within the Department of External Relations (DER) and will report to the PSP Africa Regional Communication Officer.

Objective
The objective of the PSP Africa internship is to provide a unique opportunity for the selected candidate to gain experience in communication, marketing and fundraising as well as experience working within the UN system.
