Job Description
Background/IRC Summary: Since 1999, the IRC has developed partnerships with New York City public schools, community-based organizations and local colleges and universities to support the positive development of refugee youth and their communities in New York City.The Education and Learning Program provides year round programming working directly with refugee youth, their parents and families, and their schools. Job Overview/Summary:The Refugee Youth Summer Academy (RYSA) is a six-week program focusing on preparing newly arrived refugee youth to succeed at their grade level in the New York City public school system. Up to 130 students ages 5 – 21 from over 20 countries will participate in academic, creative arts, physical education, and social emotional learning classes. Field Trips are held on Fridays. The Operations Associate will work closely with the Dean of Operations to ensure the smooth daily operation of the Refugee Youth Summer Academy.The Operations Associate will provide administrative and logistical support related to special events, arrival and dismissal, attendance, student transportation, and meals. Position Term: June 15 – August 14, 2020 Hours: 18 hours/week prior to the program, Full time (7.5 hours/day) June 30; July 1, 2; July 6 – August 14, 2020 Major Responsibilities: ·Assist Dean of Operations with technological support to instructional staff, including managing and securing all IRC devices (iPads) as well as liaising with school staff regarding DOE devices (smartboards, projectors, printers, copiers etc.) ·Address student medical needs in conjunction with Dean of Student Support ·Manage the main office in absence of the Dean of Operations ·Assist Dean of Operations in supporting Peer Mentors ·Other tasks and duties as assigned

Qualifications
Job Requirements: ·Undergraduate coursework or completed degree, preferably with a concentration in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Education or Business Operations ·Experience working with youth and/or refugee/immigrant populations ·Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills ·Cross-cultural or overseas experience ·Proficiency with Microsoft computer applications and internet research ·Close attention to detail, ability to quickly adapt to new technological systems ·Ability to take initiative and problem-solve effectively in high stress situations ·Ability to work independently and as part of a team ·Second language proficiency in relevant language desirable (including Spanish, French, Pashto, Fulani, Wolof, Dari, Farsi, Arabic, Russian, Ukrainian, Mandingo, Haitian Creole, Nepali, Tibetan, Tagalog, Tigrinya, Bengali)
