Armed Conflict: The overall situation is calm and stable. Armed conflict is thought unlikely.

Terrorism: No terrorist organizations, separatist or militant groups are known to operate in RoK.

Crime: Though still very low, over the last several years, there has been a gradual increase in the number of petty street crime in urban areas in RoK. Historically the main geographic areas of the more serious instances have been in the political centre of the country – Seoul. Various international politics, local politics and union issues have surfaced resulting in sometimes-unruly gatherings. However, in recent years, there has been a decrease in violence associated with political demonstrations. In all cases, a prompt response by security forces has restricted these outbursts and localized them in their effect.
