Background

Under the guidance of the UNODC Regional Representative for Central Asia and supervision of UNODC ROCA Operations Manager/ Programme Support Unit (SPU), the Driver provides support to office operations performing a variety of standard administrative and logistics processes ensuring high quality and accuracy of work. The Driver promotes a client, quality and results-oriented approach.
 
The Driver works in close collaboration with the PSU, Programme and projects staff in the UNODC ROCA, UNODC POs and UNDP relevant staff to exchange information and ensure consistent service delivery.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the UNODC Operations Manager/PSU Coordinator the incumbent performs the following functions:

  • Drive office vehicles for the transport of UN personnel and other authorized passengers, as well as delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items;
  • Meet official personnel and visitors at the airport and facilitate immigration and custom formalities as required;
  • Be responsible for day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, checks oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc., perform minor repairs and arranges for other repair and ensure that the vehicle is kept in good working condition and clean;
  • Maintain and ensure availability of all required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle;
  • Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing and other maintenance services;
  • Ensure that all steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident;
  • Ensure that instructions and security guidance provided by the supervisor and security focal point are strictly followed;
  • Verify that all passengers wear seatbelts at all times in the vehicle;
  • Prepare and maintain data of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports;
  • Travel throughout the region as might be required;
  • Assist to relevant UNODC/ROCA staff in arranging customs clearance of official shipments as required;
  • Assist in the mailing and distribution of publications and payments of bills, as required;
  • Provide assistance to the project staff in logistics;
  • Submission of gas/water/electricity monthly report to suppliers;
  • Perform other duties as may be required in the scope of the current position.

Required Skills and Experience

Academic requirements: Primary education. Driving license “B”, “C” and “D” categories. Skills in minor vehicle repair, initiative and discretion.

Experience: At least three years’ working experience as a driver (“B”,“C” and “D”}. Previous working experience in international organizations or embassies is an asset. Safe driving record.

Functional competencies: Strong knowledge of driving rules and regulations, skills in minor vehicle repairs,
chauffeur courtesies and local roads and conditions.

Languages:  Good knowledge of the Russian, Uzbek and speaking English would be in asset.
